(Too bad it sounds like I was off-base. But it's worked for me with other cars.)

Yes, it happens only when I barely have my foot on the gas pedal
Got any idea what that is?

I took off my High-flow cat which was NOT the problem.
I'm gonna try stock BOV tonight. I will post result later.

Yeah, looks like it won't affect drivability since my car still runs pretty strong.

^same here. sucks cause i've only launched my car one time(honestly)and don't even beat it much. i've got 26,000 on my stock clutch. of course, you go to mitsu and it's normal! BS, grinding in a TC at any time is not normal!

dude it seems like many evos have it including mine its not really that loud on mine but it can be heard as well, ive had people look at it as well and tell me its all good, and no need to worry the evo makes way too many noises, just drive your car if something goes wrong then worry about it.

yeah, I think you are right.
I replaced my high-flow cat with stock cat and
I replaced my MR BOV to stock one last night, didn't do anything.
Well, I know they're not related to this issue but for some reason I just wanted to try.
So it seems like the noise is from T-case and there's no solution other than replacing T-case?
We are driving $30K+ car and have to live with noise...sad

I have the same noise, from what I can tell. Not worried about it, if you can adjust backlash I think you could dial it out.

I have the same noise but I believe its my helix dp rubbing on the oil pan.I was under the car and noticed there is only an eight of an inch or less between the two.The dealership said the same thing after they looked at it.Any movement by the engine will cause the tbe to hit the pan.

i wouldn't replace the TC with another mitsu one. you can send the one you have to sheppard racing and have it freshened to his specs much cheaper. TRE performs this service as well, but i prefer shep since all the big dogs run his trans and TC's. al, AMS, and buschur to name a few.
