Getting from Cali, to Canada, with a new Evo...
Why can't you just buy an evo in New York? That way you wouldn't have to ship it at all. I understand you probably want to get the car as soon as possible but this seems like the safest way and with the least headaches.
I had a freind who had his DSM shipped from arkansas to ohio... It did take a while, and im sure it wouldnt be to hard if you find the right company and are willing to spend a little money to get it there safe and sound.
What's with all this "5 days" to drive it? It's an Evo. I've driven from San Diego, CA to Ann Arbor, MI in 2 days, and it's only another day to Toronto. One trip was done in a CRX and one in a Civic, and I enjoyed them the whole way. Driving the Evo cross-country would be even better, and it's something I plan on doing within the next year or so.
Get your Evo, hit the road, and have a bit of an adventure.

if memory serves 800 is really cheap for shipping that far. we had a beater shipped from Arizona to Wa and it cost that much.
take the advice given already, take the drive, there is enough great to far outweight the bad. unless you have seen it all already. :-)

I will buy the Evo in New York cause I'll be there for a month in August, and South Coast's Evo's are so damn cheap!
I'll reconsider driving again. If I can really do it in 3 days maybe it will be ok....

dude just drive it back. shipping a car nation wide is expensive. The drive is fun ive done it. Hit up a few hot spots along the way, it wont cost you that much. i think its like ~4000kms. Ryan brought back his mkiv like that too. Dont you need a us residence to register the car there though as well as to get insurance?
Sonic: Thanks man
I try my best to keep it going strong.
Nothere: I'll look into that, thanks.
Joe: Now that everyone is telling me that the drive isn't as hard as I think it is, I might just give it a try
Also, about a US residence, I have 3 at the moment lol. My Mom has a house in Toronto, my Dad has one in Nashville and Martha's Vineyard, and my sister has a place in Cali. I can get insurance no problem since I am half American and half all the proper documents, license, etc

Mapquest a jiffy lube or some place about a thousand miles into the trip and get it changed there. But I would try to get the thousand miles taken care of in cali before the trip. I thought the revs were supposed to be fluctuated during break in and that cruising wasn't good. Just something to think about.

This is what I had heard too. I will try my best to buy it so I have at least 2 weeks to break it in. Even still that is a lot of driving around in the city

Doesn anyone else have a link that goes over things that I'm going to have to do in this car's first stages to have it running smoothly other than oil change?
The two basic things on an easy break-in are to try and keep it out of boost, and to vary the speed/revs when driving. Depending on where in Cali you buy it, traffic may take care of quite a bit of those two parts. Once you get on the open road, just try and vary your speed by 10mph or so, and drop down to 4th every once in a while (but don't boost). Easiest thing to do is to follow someone for a little bit, and then overtake them, and then follow someone else, and then overtake them. Just make a routine of it for the first 600miles or so.
As far as the oil change, finding a Jiffy lube on the way will work, but I would pick up an OEM oil filter from the dealer when you pick up the car, and maybe pick up your oil at an auto parts store on the way, and have the lube place use them when they do the change. It'll help with Mitsu warranty if you ever need to use it.
