Are people surprised that YOU own an Evo?
I am a 21 yr old college student (meaning broke as hell), I previously owned a 96 legacy sedan before i bought the evo. People were suprised b/c they knew i pretty much sold myself to the bank to afford it...needless to say being up to my ears in debt for the evo was probably the best decision i have made! I plan on making enough money after I graduate to pay it off fairly soon but until then I will save my money for parts and pay it off and enjoy the ride!

More power to you.
I was hanging out with a friend and took him for a ride in my evo.. Someone called him and he stated," yea I'm just hanging out with dennis and his evo" I found that pretty funny. People are suprised I drive an evo when they find out its a 30000 dollar car. Otherwise they think its a lancer with a kit and wheels on it...
My younger cousins in the UK are total gearheads, and both dream of having an Evo one day. They were in total shock and awe when they found out I bought one. To them, I am the dogs bollocks hehe. They see me as intelligent, successful, cool... little do they know how much of a nerd I am !!
I was always a goody goody at school, and I guess that's why relatives assume its special - because I wouldn't settle for anything less.
Most family members have no idea what an Evo is, and usually give the polite "ooohh, nice - it's a beautiful car", before asking "where is the navigation system?".
My dad and my uncle are rally nuts like me, they reckon they'd be the world's best rally racers
He was concerned that I bought such an expensive car (i think he was expecting a more sensible sedan)... but I know that he is dying to take it for a spin!
With any luck, I'll be able to buy him one and we'll hit the track together sometime
I'm an Architect, and I certainly notice being in higher circles because of my Evo. My project manager has a beautiful Porsche 928, so we clicked right away
I've made many new friends of people just hearing through the grapevine that the car is mine, and then coming up to me at my desk - or in the elevator (!)
It's funny to see how, despite deliberately parking in the furthest place from the office, all the sl55/g35/is300 park around me. Makes me feel pretty damn good
The best reaction is when we go out to lunch and I can't resist showing the passengers what Evo is all about
For the most part, anyone who likes the car - usually is the type of person I get along with
Still can't believe I have one. Waking up each morning is like a new dream come true!!
Can't wait to drive to Tennessee next week!!!

ha i had that same conversation last night...
me: "got a newer car"
friend: "whatcha get?"
me: "evo"
him: "what"
me: "evo"
him "a WHAT?"
me: "dude mitsubishi lancer evolution"
him: "oh... never heard of it"
that was verbatim. to top it off he's a f'n mail man, how does he not see every kind of car every day.
as for people being surprised, most don't know what it is, and when they see me in it they are shocked at the spoiler size.

I get it all the time because I am 17 (in 2 weeks). I really don't look 17 and actually look 15. I also get the, "I can't believe you own this thing, it looks like a hotwheels car."
