Do you wish you had the MR?
i bought a base gsr and i came from a 2001 e46 m3, to me an evo is an evo no matter what options it has or doesnt have, the car clearly wasnt built to be a lexus or a bmw , so i got a base gsr so i could spend the extra money on mods. an ssl ix wont really even have to much more resale value than a base ix and to me the only way the ssl was justifyable was if you plan on keeping the car for a long long time but i will sell/trade when the x comes out.
IMHO the MR is worth the money. At least for 05.... You get alluminum roof/fenders,6 speed, teflon coated shifter cables, hid's, bilstiens, BBS's, interior trim pieces, gauges, zero lift kit, vortex generator, etc...
Ive seen a pattern of people trading in their 03's and 04's gsr's for 05 or 06 MR's,,,, I am extremely happy with my choice and as people said when the MR first came out that the tranny was weaker, but have seen to be proven wrong where I have only read of one failing thus far..

I prefer the lesser weight, rims that were nearly 3lbs lighter each, superior shocks, aluminum roof, and the extra gear.
I can also see how some prefer the nice leather seats, the appealing sunroof, and the better sound system. Then, there's always the base GSR that is lighter than both and much less expensive followed by the lightest RS that is pretty cheap. All depends on YOUR preference, not ours.

I didnt even really look at the MR or think about it purely because down the line I know I was going to replace the suspension and wheels with better components so it would be kind of dumb.
I have an 05 with SSL and I like it very much. Recently installed some 4pt harnesses and now I REALLY like the seats. Very comfortable and the harnesses allow me to concentrate on driving instead of hanging in the seat! heh!
The sunroof is also enjoyable -- I haven't suffered any effects in autox (recall someone mentioning that up above). The sound system is so-so but for now it does what I need.

I wanted my sunroof. I'm happy.
that and from the testings, aluminum roof really makes the car understeer more on the hard corner.
Also, blisten shocks and 6 speed transmission, really isn't very desirable for me.
shocks usually go out first when you track anyways, replaced with coilovers and seems like it'll just be one more gear to shift and shift often when you auto-x, 5 speed gear is more idea. even on road track too.
besides those 2, aluminum roof that hurt the cornering performance in the name of reduced weight by whopping 13 lbs or so, and shocks that's not so great on a serious performing car, and rims that's nice but could be had for little less than what mitsu sells it for, if you add those up, really, gsr is the way to go.
10.5 hotside could be had for $300 or less, but most people swap their turbo out anyway, so that's not so great either (besides, 05 and up gsr has the same turbo as the mr).
so what's really great about mr? the pricing is a lot more than 2k more since dealers are selling the gsr model at a discount around here (at about 34k) but selling the MR at 38k to 40k, not including the ssl package.
honestly, i would rather spend that 4 grand (not including the interest that goes with it) on after market parts.
$900 - coilovers
$1000 - lighter, wider, and better looking rims
$2100 - do whatever.
that's what i think.
MR stock is great. but who keeps it stock these days?
