I had an 02 S2K prior to buying my EvoIX. What I miss about the S2K is that classic Honda engine 9K RPM engine sound. What my wife misses is that the S2K was a "nicer" looking car. The EvoIX is classic form-follows-function design and a great all-around performer. If you're performance-oriented, the EvoIX is the way to go. If you want people to admire your car, keep the S2K.

Lots of people on this site said they get noticed in the Evo -- since I've had mine (7 months), I've had only 2 people ask me about it. When I bought my S2K - I had 2 people pull me over on the highway just to ask about it on the first day.

In short...if you like power, you're going to love the evo. It is significantly faster than the S2K.

Don't worry about which dealership you buy from. Just do your research (edmunds.com/kbb.com) and make sure you get one with very low miles (mine had 9 miles).

Good luck,
RedAustinIX

I had an S2k...and I do miss it occasionally (like when its about 70 out without a cloud in the sky)...but the EVO is a much better vehicle for everyday. I wish I could still have both. One thing you will miss is the transmission!

I have the MR and it has leather on the sides and suede in the middle. They are some of the most comfortable yet supportive seats I have ever sat in and they hold me in just fine!!

I got the MR bc I really wanted the HIDs, wheels and bilsteins. All of the other things that come with it were just icing on the cake. Some people will complain that you can get wheels and coilovers for the premium for the MR but I loove this car just how it is.

I know i will miss the S and IMO the S is a much better looking car.

So the MR is the only model that will come with HID's?

No one is going to argue with you about looks on this matter. The Evo is going to pull in 90% ***** and 10% girls who actually respect cars (they will probably be very ugly).

The MR is not the only model with HIDs. The GSR with SSL package come with HIDs as well.

You might wanna wait a little.

I believe there is a GSR - SE coming, which you will get the HID's w/o
getting the SSL package. Unless you really want the leathers then
go for it now.

Its all in what you want....not what everyone recommends? If you want upgraded wheels, hid, dress-up accessories, etc get the MR.....If you want leather, sunroof, hid, sound, etc. get the ssl.....If you dont want any of the above get the std model IX....if you dont want a wing, radio, power windows/locks, sound material, etc get the RS. Its really not hard. Figure out what options you like and what you would want, its an investment so get the things you like. I was told dont get SSL, well guess what I got the SSL because I wanted leather. hid, and the sunroof...I like that stuff, so sue me? Not everyon has the same tastes...

btw the leather recaros are nice, no sliding....

Good luck with the car hunting!

This actually makes me think twice about purchasing the MR and going with the ssl, although I don't want a sun roof lol.

Just remember purchasing an EVO is like buying a brand new used car. Things WILL go wrong. I still, however, do not regret the purchase for some reason.

Especially coming from a Honda.

Just one more quick point to throw in: I really am glad I got the MR because of the six-speed tranny. It has teflon-coated linkages, is buttery smooth, and has effectively two overdrive gears, whereas the GSR I drove has about the same first four gears and one "compromise" overdrive -fifth. I find the MR's fifth gear is like fourth in my WRX - suitable for a range of speeds from 40-55 mph, and the sixth gear is more of a "true" overdrive, reducing RPMs at highway speeds. I imagine the MR will get somewhat better highway mileage as a result.
Those extra two overdrive gears are really nice - the IX haS a really low gear in the differentials, and it's nice to get those revs down at highway speeds.
Just more grist for your mill!
