Racing harness/seatbelt
i have a sparco camlock 4 points on. they have the bolt to hook it in, the shouloder harnesses hook into the rear seatbelts where they bolt onto the car. the sides hook into the right or left seatbelt bolt. it replaces the bolts... HOWEVER, if i were you, i wouldnt get the boltin kind, get the one with the flat piece with the hole in it for the bolt to go through. then you can hook them into the bottom of the seats where they bolt onto the car. i ned to get this hookup from sparco because my lap belt on the right side is too loose at the moment because i have it hooked into the part of the bucket seat where the right seat belt is bolted in. USE THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT TO HOOK IT IN! it will work alot better.
StreetPowerEvo, with a harness you can't move until you press the magic button to release all the belts. I went to a gingerman raceway for the first time and there was 1 roll over innocident so i'm not sure how often a car roll but in my book i'm 1 event for 1 roll. Luckily the driver side roof held up but the passenger side cruched on top of the seat. If a roof is coming down towards you would you rather have a harness so the roof will compress your head toward the seat or a regular belt where you might be pressed towards the other seat.
Harness are made for rollcages where nothing will collapse on you therefore you would want to say in the same spot.
Dont' do it unless you have a cage. It's dangerous.

People rarely roll in autocross, especially in things like Evos (maybe the trucks, but those guys slide a lot and still don't roll), and I know that a harness will compliment your racing seat to hold you in well. One thing to keep in mind, though: I have been told that racing harnesses are not legal on the street, so you're supposed to use your regular belts on the roads. I'm not sure why, because it seems safer to me, but I guess there is some reason. Just FYI.

Auto-x ,you should have no problems with a good helmet and the regular seat belts....if lateral G's are making slide in your seat..maybe consider harness but before that change your seat rail to lower profile...lower your body center of gravity in the seat itself

Use of 4-5 point harnesses is illegal for street use in every state that I am aware of.
Using a harness on the streets is akin to installing lighted windshield washer nozzles and 20 inch wheels. And if you use harnesses on the street, expect to be treated like the bling bling-ers...ie ricers...who do it for the looks.
Some autocross sanctioning bodies will allow harness use while on the course. This is the context to which autoXer is referring.
