Two questions:

1) Do aftermarket cams reduce gas mileage? I've heard some folks say that their fuel economy went down noticeably. Of course, this could be due to the fact that they drive it much harder to experience the power increase, and the heavier foot is what's doing it. But during normal driving, is fuel economy affected?

2) Is any shop who installs cams going to know that you need an accompanying tune in order to maximize the effect and prevent damage?

If anything it will go UP. You are increasing the air flow efficiency of you motor, it does not have to work as hard to pull in the same amount of air. Of course if you go WOT, you will then burn MORE gas then normal as you now have a larger threshold to suck in air, you need additional fuel to match.

But just like highway cruising and a proper tune your mileage will be better.

262's were too tame for me, 272/264 seemed nice, 280's seemed too much w/out gears so 280/272 seemed just right and somewhwt new. I;ll let ya know after Saturday.
