alky tuning

what kid of differences in power do you see in tuning a car for alky/87oct vs alky/93oct?

can you adjust the alky to compensate for the lower octane?

Yes, you can, but it is not a smart thing to do, since 87 is so poor. The lower the octane, the less timing you can run and the lower AFRs you have to run.

I'm curious be I have growing concerns that local gas stations don't have 93 in their 93 tanks, but rather 87oct.

8 of the major fuel distributors in NJ got busted for this(selling 87 as 93, and putting 87 in 93 tanks).

I'm currently tuned by Al for 93, but now i'm always nervous that somehow i'm going to be running 87 at the wrong time and break stuff.

Get a sample and have it tested

Yes, that is what happen in Brazil all the time .... it sucks!

That is why I got XEDE, then when I have to fill up in a s***y gas station, I switch to 87 octane map (leave pretty much the settings back to stock ECU).

my problem is that i no longer trust what is marked on the pumps, so how do i know when i'm getting **** 87 gas as opposed to 93?

I also wonder how wide spread this problem is. I've been told the problem is limited to the distributors, because they are the only people that know what's going where. The station owners themselves have no way of knowing or checking what's in their tanks in terms of octane levels.

As for suing them, I'm not even sure how I'd mount a case against them.

get a more conservative tune if that is your concern.

that's the thing, I think mine is pretty conservative...

shouldn't you be concerned too living in NJ?

my original reason for this post is to see if it's possible to just use alky inj and 87 to know exactly what's in my car at all times and not leave it to chance.

Or at least see to what extent alky inj can make me at ease a bit.

There is a way to tell the quality of gas your receiving. inside the ECU is an internal fuel quality gauge that goes from 0 (lowest) to 255 (highest). using the EVOScan software and ECUFlash cable you can monitor that number to figure out the quality of gas your receiving.
