noise level w/just downpipe
noise level w/just downpipe
is anybody running a DC Sports or RMR downpipe with stock catback? These are two downpipes that have the cat delete. I'd like to know how loud it is compared to stock. thanks.
I have the RMR downpipe and catback. When I installed them I did the downpipe then listened and the catback and testpipe the sameway. It was definatly deeper wiht just the downpipe but not rediculous. I am not a expert by anymeans but is there a point to have a 3" downpipe and then go back to the smaller cat and catback. I agree with 3SgtGuru just do a full tbe with test pipe I think you might need the lower arm bar from RMR to fit the downpipe
You're going to get a change in tone, with the larger piping, but its not going to be very noticable until you run a cat back too. Are you planning to run a TEST pipe? or just a 1 piece Downpipe with no cat on it?
To be honest, theres no point in getting just a downpipe, and mating it to the stock catback. you wont get a decent gain from it, if at all. now if at the very least, you remove the cat along with your new downpipe install, and mate it to to the stock catback, you'll see some gains.
But do yourself a favor, since youre already gonna be under there, just do it all at once, and to with a Turbo back setup

Just get catback too. When I got a "modified exhaust" ticket, I had to put my stock cat and catback exhaust back on and it was not really any louder than stock. btw, I have a 3" tanabe downpipe. If you really want a loud exhaust go with full tbe with a test pipe for maximum gains.

i'm running espelir downpipe with helix hi-flow cat on a stock catcback......
almost no sound difference while driving. deeper idle and deeper at high RPMs.
reason for the setup is because i got 2 exhaust tickets in 2 weeks.....so had to put stock catback when i went to court....

Noise level
Its not so much the noise, its a deeper throaty sound. It is different than the stock sound.

I dont want it to be loud, I'm wanting to add a Fujitsubo exhaust later on, but for now i'm I'd like to just do the DC Sports downpipe with no cat, since it replaces it. Does anyone know if this will mate up to the stock exhaust?

spool up is quicker....
dont forget, most power from a TB comes from DP and HFC.......catback only ads 5whp or so.
but i DID notice a slower spoolup when i went back to stock catback. and the car doesnt seem to pull as hard on top.
maybe that's just in my head since the car is so much quieter

as far as cali laws go.....my exhaust (Espelir) is CARB legal......but ONLY with the silencer in.
the diameter of a freakin silencer is smaller than my thumb!!! there is no way i'm runnin that.
i put it in just for S'nG and it created so much backpreasure that it felt like my car is gonna explode.......idunno......i would be scared to gun it with silencer in.
driving with a silencer is like you trying to breathe through a straw for the rest of your life...... :\

Downside is it stinks, i'm 40 with family so my wife complains about the smell so i put in a UR cat and Works stealth muffler. Now noise is pretty much the same although at idle the tone is deeper due to the stealth muffler. Torque wise, I lost a little, no more kick when turbo spools up but a overall smoother delievery, and no smell. i think after my flash i should get back some of the torque. If you dont mind the smell and not touch the catback, go with test pipe. Good luck.
