1. I imagine that after a few 1,000 miles that the intercooler will be covered with bugs and all the "fins" of the intercooler will be bent, and look nasty. Is there a reasonable solution to this? Looks like it wil be difficult to clean the intercooler due to the screen.
2. Is there a reasonable priced replacement for the taillights? Something more like the Evo7?
3. Does the Evo8 come with a strutbar on the front? CarMax had it listed as a add-on they installed. Several 100 bucks.
4. When it rains, does water get in the engine from the hood vent? On all older Evos I have seen I notice rusted bolts around the exhaust heat sheild and stuff. More so than on other cars without hood vent.
5. What is the offset for a set of 17 inch wheels for the Evo8? Would a set of Prodrive P1 wheels fit?
6. Does anyone have a sound clip of a stock Evo8? I am curious as to how it sounds.
Thanks

I went to see it too and it looks nice and the price is right. You aint gonna find one much cheaper than what they are asking for it (I think it was $3.075K)1. no they dont
2. I'm not changing mine, why do you want to do that?
3. yes it does, but they offer a lighter one for extra (I don't think that EVO has the optional one)
4. I guess water gets in there. I already removed the black cover, the engine looks way cool from outside the car
5. Prodrives from the WRX wont fit. Maybe Tirerack sells some that will. Again, why change the wheels and tires? they are fine...
6. Come around my office sometime and I'll let you listen to it (I work in Marietta, near Carmax (where I got mine

Well, I stopped by the dealer today hoping for a Evo8 brochure and came out getting a test drive. It was a silver Evo8 with like 2 miles on it. I drove it for about 10 minutes or so.
Overall, I like it. I was expecting this car to be really fast, but honestly, it didn't feel any faster than my WRX (several folks say my WRX feels unusally strong compared to other WRXs). Maybe it is just the Evo sound. Sounds like my Civic SI (before VTEC engagement). Just kind of a purrr. One thing that really impressed me was the handling. This car really sticks and the suspension feels really good.
Pros:
Handiling/stiff suspension.
Interior/seats/steering wheel.
Tires/brakes.
Cons:
Didn't feel as fast as I was expecting. Too much hype?
Doesn't really sound all that great.
Shifter doesn't feel as good as talked about.
Horrible jr. highschool kid style wing/tailights.
Overall, I like the car alot. It probally gets faster once it gets broken in and I get used to it, and I can always dump the F&F wing/taillights. Maybe I will go ahead and get one, I was very impressed with the dealer's desire for me to drive it.....
Stay tuned.

If you don't think it's fast and handles well, and you hate the styling, what are you doing messing with it? Sounds like you are trolling to me.....

Hmmmm.... some of you guys aren't reading my post, or need to re-read it again. Let me say it again.
I thought the EVO handled VERY good. Better than my WRX no doubt.
The car I drove had 2 miles on it. The thought crossed my mind (as mentioned above) that the car would be faster once it was broke in and I was used to it. Honestly, it didn't feel or sound faster than my WRX. I have nothing to gain or loose by saying that. That is just how the car felt. Again, it would probally feel better once broken in.
Styling. Yes, some of the EVO styling is questionable. Not only to me, but alot of people on THIS forum. The big thing is the tail lights. Seems like 50% or more hate those tail lights. I am one of those. I am also not crazy about the wing, but the dealer said he can locate me one with a smaller wing.
So there. The lights and spoiler do not agree with me, but there are some easy fixes to both of those issues. Handling felt top notch, power felt good, but not as good as everyone hyped it up to be. That could change once the car had some miles on it.
BTW, this car would not replace my WRX. I would keep the Suby too. I like both cars. Neither better. SOme features better on Evo, some features better on WRX. Simple.

also, like I said before (as a previous WRX owner) saying the EVO is ugly after owning a Subaru is like like Phillis Diller calling JLO 'unnatractive"
Oh boy, I have to repeat myself AGAIN? As for styling it is like this:
I do not like the taillights (does anyone?) or spoiler. Thats it, I NEVER said the EVO was ugly. Come on guys, lets read my inital posts again if needed.
I don't think the EVO or WRX are the most beautiful cars in the world, but I am not concerned with looks, just performance and handling. Neither are ugly, neither are pretty.

IMO, I like the spoiler and feels that it goes with the EVO. It’s what makes the EVO stand out. As for the tail lights, I could live with them. I like them on the silver EVO's, but would rather have the EVO VII tail lights on a red EVO 8. However, I think that this car may not be for you like others have said. I do not understand how you feel that the EVO is not fast. You can’t say that it was over-hyped or you would be saying everyone on this forum that owns an EVO is lying. As far as the sound of the EVO goes, I love the idle purr, and I love the acceleration where you can hear the whine of the transmission and the turbo. (Reminds me of the sound the cars on the WRC make)
I personally have gone to Carmax and taken cars on test drives on their "test route". You cannot take a car to its full potential on this route and I'm sure the sales person wanted you to keep it in a safe range. I have driven a stock 03 WRX and a 03 EVO on surface streets and Highways and I feel that the EVO is much more car than the WRX is. The EVO has a much faster accel than the WRX from what I can tell.
If you are having all these second guesses about this car, why do you want one? I say that if you don’t feel that it is fast enough, or like the way it looks, stick with the WRX that you drive. Kind of sounds like you have money burring a hole in your pocket too.

3. Gonna leave that alone.
4. Yes, can't comment on rust though.
5. Gonna leave that one alone too.
6. There are several movies of stock Evo8's autox'ing on the forums that have the exhaust sounds in them.

My WRX ran 14.08 @ 94.6 (most runs were 14.3-4's), which I consider very fast for a stock WRX, on a 25 degree night. I did not get to drive the EVO in 25 deg weather yet, but it pulls so much harder mid range, even in hotter temps. Top end feels weak to me on EVO, but my WRX was absoltuely pathetic over 100. Go run your WRX and then you can talk and compare it to the EVO. I say your best run in any WRX may equal a completely dismal run in an EVO. Trade was easy for me since my WRX had all kinds of problems.
As for questions, they were all asnswered pretty much. I'll jsut add that I had front mount on my talon for 5 years. It seems that the general airflow causes most bugs to hit near the front edge of hood and up into windsheild. I didn't really have a big problem with bugs in the intercooler. There is a stock mesh in front if it (and oil cooler) to stop larger bugs

On boost, at WOT, the Evo sounds like a jet airplane passing by. The exhaust lets out a fairly loud whoosh-ing 'white noise' kind of sound!
It sounds like nothing else I've ever heard...

My best runs with the WRX with a turbo-back exhaust were in the mid 14's.... not as fast as my supercharged '96 Integra GSR (14.1 @ 99 mph!) all these runs were at the Commerce GA dragstrip which is fairly high above sea level (higher than NJ, I bet) and with hot, muggy summer temps.
I've not taken the EVO out there yet but I bet it'll run low 14's or better, depending on how well I drive.
