Turbo lag in the Evo

For those of you that have or had a WRX, which car has less turbo lag?

Evo or WRX

My friend has a wrx and im just trying to get a comparison.

My evo comes within a week.

look half way down this page

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&pagenumber=14

Thats a 300 wheel HP evo vs. a 300 wheel HP WRX

No comparison on the left side of the chart !

I have a WRX also.. It's not stock anymore, but when it was, the lag was soo horrible... There is very low lag in the EVO... For a turbo car that is... Once the exhaust is opened, i'm sure it will be even less....

From my experience, with friend's WRXs and a test drive in an EVO, and driving a VW/AUDI 1.8 turbo (K04 version) the EVO has by far the least LAG. My car is by far the worst, there isn' t anything untill 3000 RPMs. I mean nothing. The wrx also seems to peter out up high in the RPM range too, which sucks if you get more lag and less power. The twin scroll turbo really helps, but some of my appreciation is me just being a huge fan. I think that a WRX with the standard turbo might have less lag, but it really doesn't mean anything if you have no high PRM power.
As far as the the comparison with your friend, the EVO is better, and it should be for the money.

Just my two cents here:

The WRX most definitely does have more lag than the Evo, BUT people tend to use the "turbo lag" term to describe pretty much everything bad about the WRX

IMHO the lag in a stock WRX shouldn't be THAT MUCH MORE than an Evo.

The lethargy that you feel in a WRX in the low-end is due to non-existence of torque in the first place. Don't forget the WRX has 8:1 compression while Evo 8.8:1.

Furthermore, it is quite known that the WRX stock headers are far from ideal.

The Evo does an amazing job of maintaining high throttle response despite the longer piping for the FMIC.

50 shot at 1500rpm will fix that lag.

The standard 227hp WRX does have a good bit of turbo lag. I wouldl guess the EVO has less lag.

The STi from what I've read has much less lag compared to the EVO. This is due to the stronger 2.5 liter motor off boost.

Car and driver mentioned the lag in the EVO was substantial compared to the 04 STi.

The street start 5-60mph time shows the increase lag in the EVO over the STi.

The lag on the standard WRX is very similar to that on the standard EVO7/8. A WRX with downpipe, chip upgrade (or boost controller) has much less lag than an Evo (even at lower boost). Do a comparison with the two charts below...follow the links. To my knowledge, they were done on the same dyno but on different dates.

That's the graph with a stock turbo with decorked exhaust! Evo has the stock factory exhaust and still less lag than a wrx with a 13G turbo! The evo has a 16G and even if the small 13G turbo can spool a little faster at low RPM it'll still lag more due to the WRX's long gear.

The big differnce between the WRX and EVO as far as my personal experience has been so far is that everytime you go for more HP on the WRX - you also get a bit more turbo lag - whereas all the mods I have done on the evo so far have either reduced turbo lag or kept it the same

Maybe a stock 190 wheel HP wrx may have similar spool charateristsics as my 317 wheel HP evo - - bujt a 317 wheel HP WRX would have substaintially more lag than the stock wrx
