I just listed my evo on ebay and going through several other for sale I noticed hardly any bids and couldn't even find one that sold. Did I just waste $109.95??

 

It depends on a bunch of things, How high is your reserve, etc. I have always found autotrader to be my best route. You can do a package with autotrader online and they still print it in there magazine. I have sold one car on ebay and 3 on autotrader. Good luck!
Also remember most people bid on the last minute so watch an auction and see how much the price jumps at the end.

 

It's risky. You personally never get to see the car or drive it by bidding on an ebay car. Would you want to commit to buy a 20K+ car from a private party not knowing the exact shape of the car? I know I wouldn't.

See you may be honest and the car might be great but only you know that. It's the unknown factors that make it hard to sell cars like the Evo on ebay. Your better off with Cars.com or something like that where a potential buyer can see your ad, price, and then come see the car with out risk of losing a deposit if they choose that is't not right or them.

 

I can think of some reasons. Buying something that expensive on ebay is risky. They are too far away and are smart enough not to buy a used/modded car of that type without seeing/driving it.

 

I think part of the problem is that if the car is used, espcially the evo, people will want to know about the history of the car. I would not buy a used evo without talking to the owner a lot and getting some background on the car. I think that is why ebay doesn't always work for this particular car. Cars that tend to be kept stock and truly used as forms of commuting only tend to be safer buys on ebay where you don't tend to interact that much with the seller before making a purchase.

 

In my oppinion, buying a used Evo on ebay would be like buying a used hooker. Everyone likes it, but wouldn't want to own it, for reasons of it being beatin on and treated like shyt. Not knowing its full true history and all

You do have to remember the crap load of scams proliferating the internet market selling very popular cars at impossible prices only to bail out take the money and not deliver. I wont buy a car online at anything other than the manufacturer's website for this very reason.

 

I have bought and sold cars on ebay but have to admit, I was very cautious and only bought really great deals where I had some sort of protection (vehicle was still under warranty, escrow was offered, I could view the car before paying, etc.).

Not sure what your ebay ad says but I would require the buyer to give me a small deposit immediately after purchase (enough to cover cost of ad and time) and then allow the rest to be paid upon inspection/delivery of the vehicle. If the deal went bad, at least I didn't lose.

Never had to ship a vehicle I sold but I think ebay has an escrow service where they will "hold" the money for both parties.

If it doesn't sell, try autotrader or craigslist.

imo, today's market is loaded with used evos for sale, and its also not as easy to sell a vehicle in the winter time.

Ebay used to be good. Now theres nothing but scams and fake listings so I think people are way more hesitant than they use to be.

 

I've bought a couple of cars on ebay: a '79 930 and a '57 T-Bird and they were not in my area. In both cases I emailed the seller beforehand saying I planned on winning but wanted to subject the final sale on an approved inspection at a shop of my choice.

My suggestion is to add a line in your ad saying you'll pay for such an inspection and give the seller an out should something bad show up. If you're confident in your car this is a small price to pay - don't let the little $ signs get in the way of the big $ signs...

Lets face it, most EVO's get driven hard on a daily basis. Smart (potential) EVO buyers know this, and are not going buy an EVO on ebay, because they can't check out or test drive the car. Also, I think its beneficial to know a little something about the previous owner of the vehicle. With a local sale, you can meet/talk with the owner to get a feel for how the car has been driven and taken care of. With ebay, you can't do any of this. Just my 0.02

 

I agree to this. I had so many people calling/emailing me about doing the deal outside of ebay.
