Friendly debate, bad to leave car in gear?
Leaving a manual transmission in gear while parked has been an issue for many, many years. My auto shop teacher advised us that if there is a sudden impact of somebody bumping the car, the transmission gear can get damaged/cracked/chipped if the car is left in gear while parked. I've always kept my manual transmission in neutral when ever my car is parked.
I don't ever leave my car in gear unless I'm on a hill. I have the bad habit of letting the clutch out after starting the car. A few times, when tire places have pulled my car up, they leave it in gear, causing me to do that "I'm retarded" forward lurch/stall. *******s.
