EVO Hardware...Different Body??

I really like the EVO (and how it looks) and I'm going to buy one, but I was wondering if they could design a car with all of the EVO's impressive hardware with a different shell?

Perhaps something like the previous generation Eclipse GSX (already turbo and AWD)? I'm sure it would be more expensive, be a bit heavier, and not nearly as good as a rally racer.....but I'm sure it would sell like crazy.

Of course, a more conservative approach could be to just make it a two-door sedan or better yet a two door hatchback?? I think they had a roadster variant at the NY Auto Show and a few other versions in a recent magaizine (Road and Track I think?).

Not sure I understand what your question is, but here goes.

the answer is yes, they have done itseveral times, its no big deal. In a world where one platform can spawn an Eclipse, a Galant and an Endeavor, you can have an Evo platform under an Outlander (Airtrek Turbo) or stick any body you want on top of it. Check the Road and Track issue that had the EVO on the cover with a couple of other cars, and you'll see other Mitsus with EVO drivetrains.

Or are you just saying it would be cool if the Eclipse GSX were reborn?

IMO, won't happen.

I'm just saying they have an excellent base here to work with and it would be cool to have a few variants of it. Certainly the GSX was a great looking car and to have its performance match it would be quite nice.

Still, a 2 door version of the EVO or perhaps even a hatchback probobly would look a bit cooler and would certainly be lighter. Still, the current EVO is phenomenal (most of the people who complain about its looks have never seen it in person IMHO) and I will own one with the next few months.

Plus, it's much more fun when you embarass people with a 4 door. A friend of mine is waiting for his S4 wagon
