50 mile roundtrip commute without issue. When I was enjoying the snot out of it (i.e. cruising on the freeway at 80mph in 4th), I was getting about 16-18mpg. Now that I have discovered a fifth cog in the tranny, mileage has jumped to 23-24mpg (keeping it at or around 70mph on the freeway).

Some minor fit and finish issues - two or three trivial rattles, but other than that, everything seems pretty solid. ~9000 miles and going strong.

Tires still look new, temp has never gone above 1/2 way. In my 100 mile commute to work I would say I average between 80 - 85mph majority of the way. I am also getting around 26 - 28 mpg. No stop and go at all in my commute. Go for it.

at 2150 miles, and nearing the end of my first month of ownership, i've only got one rattle somewhere in the dash. tires look new. clutch is kind of sketchy at this point. this is my first performance car with a stick so i made a few glaring errors early on. seats are comfortable. i feel like even on bumpy roads, the car is great. i love the performance so much that the stiff suspension doesn't bother me at all. got my first ticket the other day though

anyhow, i'd obviously do it if i were you, since i did it while being me.

well we can only help you to make a decission ,as for me i was a fan of both up to '99 and i preferred evo but if i got an sti no matter what i would always be wondering day by day " what if i got the evo". i wished for years and years," when will they bring the evo to the states" and finally they ........
On that same note the evo8 fq-300 is out in the uk ,however this car is exclusive to the uk only (300hp and torque) , i wouldn't expect any of those factory 300hp cars to come here anytime soon hope all the feed back helped you to make a decission.

Make sure you watch the tire pressures in these tires very closely. If not you will get a heel-toe wear on your tread blocks and the tires will get loud very quickly. It is more sensitive than most cars and tires.

Have no problems with my Evo, got over 1100mi after 3 wks, been up to Thunderhill with Works doing skidpad and slalom.
Can't keep it below 80
Only problem is the big wing just block the cars thru the rearview mirror and i have to move my head to make sure no CHP is behind me!! Also, i like my steering wheel low, and it blocks the speedo.

Incognito is being modest. As far as I know, he currently has the fastest USDM EVO VIII in the world.. check his time in his sig. A dozen trips down the 1/4 mile will eat a clutch pretty quick.

How do some of your car's FMIC look? Are the bugs and road debris wrecking the FMIC's fins?

How about the motor? I have noticed alot of rusted parts in brand new Evos. I guess it is a combo of the big hole in the hood and rain....

I to am wondering about the FMIC. I'd assume that it would be inevitable that the fins would get warped after a while. Are there any aftermaket companies that are making a mesh grill with smaller holes. Yes, I know that this may effect the flow of cool air reaching the intercooler but there must be somthing to protect the skinny fins.
