Going to attempt Forge WGA install

I would say my level of experience would be very minimal. I can change my own oil and change spark plugs. I've installed a MBC and a BOV.

I have been battling severe boost drop off for quite some time now.

All signs point to a faulty stock WGA - so to rectify the situation I purchase the Forge unit.

What would you all say the difficulty of installing a WGA be?

Would any of you happen to have any write ups or now where I can find one?

I did search and haven't found anything useful.

Thanks!

I have one sitting on my desk and was planning on installing it soon. Let me know how long it takes.

It's not that hard. The only thing that can be frustrating is getting the lower heat shield off. Just remember to put some cardboard on the radiator so you don't damage it.

Any tips on removing the lower heat shield.

I'm a little nervous about doing this, but think I'll be able to handle it.

Thanks for the response.

Just be very patient. If you have help, have someone pull on the radiator towards the front of the car so it gives you more space to pull the shield out.

I've read that you have to drain and remove the radiator.

I really don't know if I have the ability to do that.

I got mine out without taking the radiator out. It's a tight squeeze, but will come out.Just don't forget to protect your radiator with the cardboard.

Is it worth putting on a IX with stock turbo? And Why?

its a huge pain with an aftermarket radiator, i almost have to remove mine just to touch the wga, but other than that they are really easy to install and well worth it.

Have you read my original post?

I'm having _boost_ problems. As in not holding boost.

If you're not having boost problems why would you need one?

I'm not into putting things on my car because I feel like it.

If you are not wanting the heatshield anymore you can always take tinsnips to it and cut it off.

LOL.

I was debating whether or not to do that.

I don't have coated parts so I'm not sure if running without a heatshield will affect the surrounding pieces.

Kapolani, some people may be able to do it with the radiator on, but I can't fit my hands in such a tight space. You can just jack the car up, drain the radiator, disconnect the radiator hoses, pull the radiator UP through the top of the engine bay, then you will have direct access to the WGA. It's easy to remove, and when you put the new one on, just remember to adjust the turnbuckle so that the opening at the end of the WG arm is 1/4" or so below the pin of the WG flapper at its lowest position. You will then need compressed air that you hook directly to the WGA nipple in order to pump the arm up and connect it to the pin. After the arm is on the pin, remove the compressed air, and it will pull taut. After that, slip in the retaining pin, and put everything back together.

I also replaced the wga without taking the radiator out + card board.

Just be patient wiggling the lower heat shield out from the top.
Also helps to take the undertray off so you can reach all the bolts and hoses from the bottom of the car.

About a hour work for the install.

I actually has the forge wga on both my 8 and 20g-9 turbos. Noticed quicker spool and less tapering.
