Why my Advans lasted only 4700 miles...

Just found out why my Advans died an early death... due to the .69" of toe the factory stall monkees dialed in. Here's the link to my post and alignment sheet: Crappy Alignment

So get your cars aligned as soon as possible, unless you like wasting tires and handling that is much less than it should be.

Only funny thing is that I have won 3 autocross events with these settings... should smoke em now that everything is setup right.

I have a feeling I need an alignment as well. My car has noticably pulled to the left and at 4300 miles it seems like its getting worse. I'm taking it in next week to have it checked.

I asked my dealer to do an alignment before I picked up the car. It turns out my toe was off.

Were those three autocrosses on those tires?

My OEM potenzas on our D stock Mazdaspeed looked like they were about to go south with only 2k miles on the clock. Autocross can really kill tires if you camber and toe aren't set right... We've switched to race tires now so our potenzas have a stay of execution but I'd say in three autocrosses we took 80% of the outside edge tread off. Like butta.

We're getting a serious realignment for the MSP soon... not enough camber, wrong toe.. we'll eat our r compounds pretty damn quick for sure.

How many autocrosses total or how many autocross runs total on these tires?

I have 5k on my Evo and had the tires rotated and they look like they could last another 10k, lots of rubber left and I rip this car in the corners every chance I get.

What alignment settings would you guys suggest for someone who isn't going to be autocrossing, wants a good amount of life out of the tires, but also wants great handling.

Thanks. (Please be thorough, I'm not really wise to this sort of thing)

I did actually have the dealer align the car.. My salesman was actually the one who recommended it and had them do it for me just prior to picking it up.. Turns out it was slightly off, but in spec.. one thing they did find was that they needed to rebalance the wheels, I think they noticed that on the PDI

3 autocrosses on the stock tires, which does help explain the rubbed shoulders. But the middle worn to the wearbars is more a symptom of pigeon toed tires forced straight down the road. The toe was way way way off, not just a little bit.

I'm curious about this as well. I'm going in for my first oil change shortly, and want to have them check the alignment while there (car seems to pull to the right most times).

What are some good specs for alignment, non-autoX use, but still delivering the outstanding handling the car is capable of?

2Cool: Unless you're running too much tire pressure for everyday use. But I'm sure you would've mentioned that if that were the case.

My car is almost to the wear bars on one pair of tires. They're on the back now, but they were up front for 2 or 3 AutoX. They have .15" depth on the outside groove and .18" on the inside 3 grooves. The other pair, which were on the rear, have .25" on the outside groove and .28" on the inside 3 grooves. The car was aligned to 0 toe within a week or two of me getting the car and before any AutoXing.

The car only has 6,500 miles on it, so obviously the AutoXing is taking its toll (as expected) given that meeyatch has over 13k and has plenty of tread left.

Yeah it's a good idea to get an alignment the first week you have the car. I read another post about how far off some one's was so I took mine to a local speed shop to have mine aligned, wasn't planning on having mitsu do it.

The numbers were WAY off. The camber was the worst I have ever seen. Left front was -1.6 right front was +.4

Thats not a misprint it was +0.4 on the right front. Even after flipping the camber bolt the best we could get was -0.6 right front. SO I called my dealer and told the service manager what number we had seen. Of course the started the whole "well there machine could be off" crap so I asked them to setup an appointment to check it out. Of course they gave me the run around and could not "get the specs from mitsubishi". So I escalated through MMUSA. A month latter and three more calls to MMUSA they finally got what they needed (this was 2 weeks ago) and checked my car out.

They came back and said "yeah it is off" No **** monkeyboy thats what I told you a month ago (thinking to myself).

They fixed it for free and I now have -1.5 both left and right front.

So, yeah get your alignment checked as soon as possible.

I pumped the air to 36 rear 38 front at events, then ran normally at 34 all around for daily use. So air pressure shouldn't have been as large an issue. Of course as an autoXer I have an air presure guage or two in the car at all times.

Big thing was the wear difference in the front and rear. The pair that was up front for most of my daily driving are the ones that are bad now. I check em after every autoX, and saw some wear, but the shocker was before the last autoX when I went to change to my new race rubber, and suddenly the fronts were at the wearbars, when they had been at about 2/3rds tread after last months autoX.
