Total $203. 60% cheaper than the dealer.
A little off topic, but I bought a package of 12 filters...$60. Originally they wanted to charge me $11 a filter but I told them I was going somewhere else. I showed him some prices online and he dropped down to $5 a filter

The dealership did however want to charge me $500, they said the cost of labor is what makes it so expensive. I bought Diaqueen for $50 and a $10 pump, changed it myself.

Cost of labor my a$$. I had the dealership do mine at 30K miles. I paid about $500. I watched the tech do it. He took his sweet time and it was done in about 40 minutes. I vowed never to pay anyone to ever do that again. Dealerships charge so much for this service because they know that a lot of Evo owners won't tackle the job themselves. I did it myself at 58,000 miles. The write-ups on this forum are quite good. The job took a while (because I'm paranoid and it was my first time) and it was a little messy, but it was well worth the effort. Everyone likes the feeling of doing stuff for themselves. It really is not that hard at all.

BTW, I didn't use jackstands. The rear diff fluid can be changed with the car on the ground, though it's a little cramped. The tranny and transfer case fluid can be changed with the front of the car on ramps. Just make sure you measure the fluid according to the owner's manual recommendation. I used three quarts of Royal Purple ($10/qt) for the tranny and Diaqueen for the rear diff and TC. I wholeheartedly recommend that no Evo owner ever pay to have their fluids changed.

www.mitsubishiparts.net around $35.00 for the metal can of diaqueen that has about 3-4 x-fer AND diff canges worth of fluid. Here is the link: http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/catalog/?section=457

In Michigan I can get redline locally for $7.00/qt so $21.00 total

Pump and vac hose to get fluid into diff/xfer $15.00 or less

Took me about 30 min to change xfer and diff today (second time doing it) tranny is about as hard as oil.

$248 for the transaxle (transmission)

$126 for rear differential

$148 for transfer case.

They want $500 to just change the fluids and they blame it on the cost of the fluid. What a joke!

Needless to say i'll be calling AMS as my last resort and depending on their price i might be doing it myself but i'd rather not....
have you changed the clutch yet? factory still? if so, its days are numbered....
might as well do it all at the same time..........

Rule of thumb....never go to the dealer unless it has to deal with a warranty. Maintanance crap can be done else were, same job, lower price, and you can spend the extra money on mods.

No offense but that has to be the dumbest comment ever. Unlike 50% of our community who are under age and can't drive a manual car properly, my clutch is just fine at 20,000 miles. (This obviously excludes those who launch their car regularly at the track and know that the stock clutch will not last forever). My clutch will last atleast another 20,000 miles.

Thanks for the input from all of you, I know that I should be doing it myself but I will be getting mine done at AMS. After doing a bit more research I think the redline fluids are the way to go. The only reason I am not doing it myself is time, and I also want the first change to be documented. I take care of all my cars very well and I document everything and I also save all receipts. When I sell the car the new owner will know exactly what was done and where it was done. The only shops that have ever worked on my car were the dealer and AMS, since they are right down the road.

Mathgeek,

I remember when you first brought up the subject of doing your own fluid changes and how trepidatious you were about doing it. I hate that you had to pay so much money to learn what we were telling you all along, but you now have the knowledge to do it yourself. As we all know knowledge is power.

True just take your time on the evo I have learned how to do brakes, clutch, drop the sub frame to replace the power steering line, turbo removal/install, gauge install, springs, camber plates, exhaust, DP. And many many more just a $200.00 set of tools (big craftsman kit) and time. I have saved probly 2k in installs!
