Dealer is crazy!
Ok check this out. My car has recently hit 20,000 miles and I figured that I'm long overdue for a transmission, transfer case, and rear differential fluid change. I called the dealer this morning to find out roughly how much it will cost and this is what they told me.
$248 for the transaxle (transmission)
$126 for rear differential
$148 for transfer case.
They want $500 to just change the fluids and they blame it on the cost of the fluid. What a joke!
Needless to say i'll be calling AMS as my last resort and depending on their price i might be doing it myself but i'd rather not....

I just called AMS and they are much more reasonable with $150 all together but they do not use diaqueen!!! I was told that diaqueen is a must on the Evo and even shops such as AMS use it. They use redline MT-90 in the transmission and redline shockproof in the rear differential. I'm not really too sure if that is right, they said they have been using it in all of their cars for the past 3 years.
man oh man. Dealerships think they can get away with everything! I think I will do my routine 15K there which is 299 and a free rental car lol. I have to find out though what 15K service is!

Do I have to take off my undertray to drain the transmission fluid?
I'd really like to do it myself but I've never changed fluid on an AWD before. Is there a "how to" for the transfer case and rear differential fluids?

If you can change your own oil you can do the t-case, tranny and rear dif. WAY Easy!

Yes, you would need to take the under tray off...at least it will make the job a lot easier. That's actually the hardest part of the whole job, all those little plastic screws. I just run with out the tray.
Check the how-to section. There's a very detailed write up with pics. It's pretty darn easy. Don't forget to get a car jack and stands. Also, you don't have to use Diaqueen. I think it's highly recommended on an MR but not needed for the regular Evo. Redline makes good fluids. You'll be fine.
Dude, I just had my car fluids changed 2 days ago...
I got oil changed, transmission, transfer case, & rear differential fluid ... ALL changed with OEM ****, for $164 + oil $23 + oil filter $16 (stealership charges $16 for a flippin filter! wtf!).
Total $203. 60% cheaper than the dealer.

here is a good link for changing the tranny and front diff. http://evomoto.com/index_tech.php?tP...9af290728d4774 you will have to check the how to section for the rear diff. as for the undertray unless they changed it for the evo 9, on the evo 8 you do not need to remove it
It is not necessary to remove the undertray to change any of your fluids. If you are any kind of do-it-yourselfer changing your fluids is too easy. There are numerous tutorials both on this site and on evomoto. Save yourself some money and give yourself the peace of mind that it was done correctly by doing it yourself.

All you need is a clear plastic hose from Home Depot or Lowes to attach to the Tranny fluid bottle as well as the rest. You don't need a pump, you just squeeze the bottle with the hose attached to the end. You fill until it starts to overflow, then put the drain/fill plug back in. I have done this many times right in the driveway as well as for customers of mine. It is very easy to do.
