what could this sound mean??????

hey guys,

i have a 2006 evo 9 mr and just recently it started making a funny noise.

when i start to accelerate, it start to make a "shhhhhhhhhhh" kind of sound. it sounds a little static-y, like the stereo is on but it isn't. and when i start to slow down, when i get to around like 10 mph, it goes away all of a sudden. someone suggested the timing belt but i don't think he knows what he's talking about.

help guys!

albert

EDIT!!

found out my window was open by a hair! i feel like an idiot
haha.

thanks for the answers though!

Close your doors on a dollar bill (crispy) and try and slide it around.

thought of wind coming in as a possibility but it cant be as the noise doesn't die down. it stops suddenly when i get to a low speed

Air pressure on the car goes up with the speed. Ever roll down your window at 100+ mph?

After market audio? A bad ground (earthing) will create this. Even with the stereo off. Stray voltage through the negative on a coaxial speaker.

does your car have a turbo? (LOL, couldn't resist). is the noise constant at speed? what have you had done to the car? are there wind deflectors on it? a more specific area where it is coming from and a better description of noise would get it diagnosed better. waitaminnit, just take the thing to the freakin dealer unless you modded the hell out of it already.
