I'm somewhere around 12,500 or 12,800. I'll check this evening when I arrive at home. Mostly it's the 50 mile a day commute (25 each way), plus a couple of beautiful trips to San Francisco up PCH. Apparently I set a couple of land speed records on one of the trips - I had the local law enforcement document it (an official 99mph). That would be the first one my Solo S2 has misssed

Oh - and that's since March 5th

How many people used "gentle break-in techniques? This has become controversial as many are saying that contemporary engines need to be run hard early on in order to ensure proper ring seating.

I kept it under 3000rpms the first 600 miles. Then every now and then I will goto 6000rpms, but not much. I have yet to redline it, since I'm new to stick driving.

Yep.. We got 10,800 miles on our EVO

For break-in, we recommend, draining the Mobil 1 synthetic oil the car came with and replacing it with standard non-synthetic. After 5000 miles or so, go back to a good synethic like Redline or Royal Purple. The cars that have broken in on regular oil have consistently made 10 wheel hp more (on our dyno) than the ones that ran on the factory oil. They also don't burn any oil.

Cheers,
Shiv

Shiv what's your sample size here? How many cars have you seen broken in with regular oil?

Bought it 6/18/03, had only 10 miles on the odometer, as of today I've got over 3600 miles, will need the first oil change before the week is over, man I love driving this car.

Shiv, I've got around 300 miles on the car already. Do you recommend swapping the oil out for non-synthetic at this point? But won't this void the warranty???

Wow I wish I knew that before. If the car has over a little over 1k miles on it, is it too late to switch back to regular oil for break-in or is it pretty much broken in?

Absolutely. 300 miles is still very low mileage. Go ahead and use non-synthetic, do an oil and filter change after 2000 miles, fill up with non-synthetic again, do another change after 2000 miles and go with a good synthetic.

As for a sample size, all three cars that have been broken in on non-sythetic have made ~200 wheel hp stock on our dyno. The others have made 185-190 wheel hp with one outliner as low as 165 wheel hp. I suspect the same size will grow as more people try this approach.

Regards
shiv

I would assume that the increased friction allows the rings to seat and scrub in better? By the way Shiv, I had a quick question for you, actually two questions. Does the Xede raise the rev limit and when do stage 1 and stage 2 come out?
