Crank Walk Question...
What are EARLY signs of crank walk? People tell me when you have crank walk when you turn the steering wheel left the clutch pedal falls to the floor, but how can you tell you have crank walk before that happens?
I havent heard of one case of the EVO 4G63 crankwalking. It used to happen to the older DSM 4G63
If you are having an issue Id look elsewhere
Here is a article explaining crankwalk

Determining this is fairly simple-take a prybar and pry on your crank pulley (be gentle and don't crack the plastic lower timing belt case)! If you can visually see any play, you have crank walk. This is not a fail proof test, to be 100% sure, do this same test with a dial indicator setup on the crank pulley to get an exact # and compare this # with the factory specs...generally speaking the Evo 4G63 does not have crank walking issues because of the 360 degree thrust bearing.

there have been three local cases of crankwalk evos in tampa. nothing has changed to make it happen less in evos. only the use of the best oil on the market in evos verses likely 80% of dsms were run on regular oil.
that show you check for crankwlk on a dsm. on an evo the clutch is pull. so you have to pull out the pulley. then depress pedal to see if it moves.

Crank walk is only common in older 4g63's, not Evo's. I'm sure it has happened in some but statisically speaking the amount of Evo's out there as compared to the seldom cases crank walking in an Evo amounts to nothing at all to even worry about.
As i understand it, the DSM and Evo clutches work in opposite directions (push vs. pull) could this contribute to the Evo's not having a problem with crankwalk as often? Am I retarded?

I think what he was trying to say was, Synthetic oil was never required or even suggested to be used in the 2G DSMs.
Anyway, IIRC, everything from insufficient oil flow due to cast flashing in oil passages to pressure from torquing down the head was the claimed culprit.
