When (not if, but when) my factory clutch fails at say.......oh........6,000 to 10,000 miles, I am going to ask for a factory replacement under warranty. Mistu should know better. If you buy an Evo, there is a pretty damn good chance that you know a little something about cars -- or that you at least know about 2 particular cars: The Evo and the WRX STi. I will try some tactics like reminding the dealer about how strong the factory clutch on the STi is and how much of a better investment buying a Scooby would have been (blasthphemy, I know). If they still give me flack, I will demand that they continue to honor the rest of the drivetrain warranty once I replace my worthless 10,000 mile clutch with an aftermarket one that is at least worth a damn. I just don't see me spending around 2 grand on a product that I know will just wear out in another 10,000 miles. Are they selling the OEM tires for that much? That is the life expectancy on the tires, why aren't they costing that much? Mitsu wants to be silly, so do I. I am a die-hard Mitsubishi fan, but this is just borderline we-ta-ded.
Anyway, that is just my $0.02 worth.

Just wondering how many had there clutch fail under 10kmiles and had it replace by the dealer? After the dealer replaced it, did the clutch felt like it used to be(before the clutch failure)?
Clutch can be replaced rather cheaply, but a whole tranny is quiet expensive. And most people replace the clutch to an aftermarket unit anyways. I hope the EVO's clutch problem is just the clutch(maybee bad batch of clutch), not the whole entire tranny.

I doubt
will do the same.
track record on admitting mistakes isnt that pretty. These is the same company that hide complaints/recalls/known problems to their car.
BTW racing=abuse=void warranty

BTW,
That video was mainly a 20 minute add for pit pass service. The only usefull info it provided was the breakin period for the engine breaks and tires, and the fact that the advans are not suited for use in cold weather.

Thats not really so. I read a lot about the M3 engine failure's and if the dealer could prove that it was the driver's fault, they did not replace the engine under warranty. The ecu keeps track of all over-rev's and if a customer was found to over-rev his car, they would not warranty. Now there were people who had SMG tranny's and their engine blew and their engines were replaced under warranty because the SMG tranny is not supposed to allow over-rev's. I read about lot's and lot's of M3 motor replacements under warranty and BMW came out with the motor fix pretty quickly and admitted their mistake. That's more than I can say about a lot of other car companies.

We need to really push this issue because although my clutch is fine It does feel like it is not the best setup for this car.
Even though Exedy makes the clutch it isn't one of there better clutches. Mitsu
should recall all 5000 US Spec EVO's and replace the clutches with a stronger clutch. We spent $30,000+ and deserve to have better clutches in our rides.

I second that. I remember reading about international complaints about the stock clutches in the evo line so i think its a known issue that mitsu knows it can pawn off on racing and abuse as this is a high performance car.
Ya guys, I don't have an EVO, but agree that it's a bunch of BS that the stock clutch is going out so easily, what a load! You guys should really work on getting them recalled!
My BMW has 60,000 miles on it and my car has about 40 more hp and torque than stock and I drive it decently hard at times, and my clutch is still perfect!!
needs to step up to the plate and fix this!!

Arm waving is a worthless endeavor. What is just and fair is one thing and what corporations do is another, use your own experiences here. We are entitled to a car that works within reasonable expectations. This is implied when we purchase the vehicle and is enforcable in court.
These cars are sold in different states so it is probably best to go against Mitsubishi and not the dealers. We could get a class action suit going if we have proof that the clutch is inadaquate. The clutch doesn't seem properly designed when it burns so easily however what we need is an few independent experts to test the cars and render an evaluation that will hold up in court. If this isn't done the only recourse is to rely on each dealers good will. They have to fight with Mitsu to be re-imbursed for warranty work.
I speak from 17 years experience running a service department.
Anyone want to step up to the plate and get it going? I need to have actual damage and my car still runs fine but those of you who are on the horns of this dilema (abuse or defect) have what you need to proceed.
