am i jus wasting gas

hi, i got my car tuned on 91 octane in California. now its in jersey n we have shell 93 octane. Am i jus waisting money n gas.

The reason i ask is that my 300zxTT was chipped by Ztuner in Florida n can use 91 octane but when i use 93 octane I get more power. Jus asking if i need to get it retuned also for 93. any input wil ne appreciated.

yes its a noob question

well, i am sure you would get a little more power out of a retune, but i wouldn't say it is do or die. a new tune is never a bad thing though.

personally, i would keep running the 93 regardless. the way i see it, the more octane, the less chance of knock. when PA still sold 94 octane, i ran it religiously. if for no other reason than it made me sleep a little better at night.

I believe that you would have to get retuned to benefit from any additional power.

I think it would be safer/much more fun with a retune on 93 oct. Up to you though bra.

It really depends ... that huge change in location (Cali to NJ) could change the way the car runs enough to show some knock. If that is the case, 93 would make more power. If the car isn't knocking then it would make no difference.

what i do know is that its running super rich an if i take it anywhere near redline its shooting fireballs from the tailpipe n my rear bumper can vouch for it. Had a bunch of people at the bus stop hit the deck wen a fireball shot out it was so funny. I wont be in such a rush to retune it then, ill jus wait till march wen its time to go back to the track. thanks to all that replied

not only the change in octane but take into consideration elevation also...which may or maybe not be the same

if you are running rich enough to be shooting fireballs you are going to foul out your plugs fairly quick and can kill your o2 sensors

I'd recommend getting retuned during the winter as it is safer to run a tune year round that was based off of colder and denser air

also just a tip...don't toy with your boost you won't benefit from turning up the boost if you aren't properly tuned for the given octane
