Any suggestions? I called FedEx and they quoted me $102 to Washington...I'm in CA.

I'm estimating it weighs about 7lbs and the dimensions are 74x12x24 of a box I made...the lip itself measures around 64x5x24.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Have you tried any other freight companies? UPS or DHL. UPS is the most reliable and DHL will most likely be the cheapest. I ship lips just about everyday, but my pricing will certainly be different than yours since I have an account with these companies.

Why the increase in box size? 67x9x24 is the size of the box that Mitsubishi ships these in. I would decrease the box size as much as possible. When a package gets that large they go to a dimensional weight and it adds up quick. Smaller is better, but leave a little room for packing. Either way the lip shouldnt get damaged.

Like RussellM mentioned, shrink the box as much as you can. That will help to save you money.

For shipping, DHL has always been significantly cheaper than UPS/FedEx for me when shipping anything. I'm guessing your package will be around $80 with DHL vs the $102 from FedEx.

I called DHL today and they said its $108...with no shipment value. FedEx's price of $102 had a shipment value of $350...go figure.

I'm gonna try and call Greyhound tomorrow...see what they say.

I shipped a b-pipe of an exhaust once...wrapped it twice in bubble wrap and shipped it out via FedEx ground...arrived at the buyer's house in 2 pieces. FedEx was quick to send me a check, but it was a hassle nonetheless...not really sure I wanna go through that again.

 

What zip codes are you shipping from and to?

 

Greyhound is usually the cheapest for big stuff, and FedEx has been the cheapest for smaller stuff, I shipped out my 2g cylinder head weighing almost 70lbs and it cost me $35 to ship from CT to FL

 

70 lbs? Was it still attached to the block?
They weigh 50 lbs tops with cams and valvetrain.
