Unhappy $3085 for 6 months of insurance...WTF???

Damn, I'm 24 years old and clean driving record for the past 3 to 4 years... This is nuts... I live in Chicago and in the city...is anyone else paying this price for insurance?

The person who gave me the quote stated that the high insurance premium is probably due to the cost of the car... is this true?

I am currently going through insure one... this sucks... this may set my plans for an EVO back a few more months til I'm 25... will it drop dramatically?

Any suggestions?

24 years old, no wrecks on record, no tickets on record....EVER!

I pay $1,225 every 6 months with zero deductible and like $150k/$300k coverage on all the different types (collision, body damage, damage to property, uninsured motorist).

Was it a 'discount' insurer that you called? If yes, then you learned their dirtly little secret. Thats how they keep the rates so low for their normal customers.....they charge VERY high rates for at risk cars. That way you will likely take your business elsewhere....And when you take your business elsewhere, you lower the risk pool of the discount insurer....and they can offer lower rates to the low risk cars the like to insure.

You'll have to wait till you are 25 to get the true adult rate. But Call State Farm.... I'm insured in a fairly high risk area for appx $1300 a year.

Yikes.. Thats how much I pay a year for ALL of my cars.. Definitely shop it around a bit... I have USAA, but I'm fairly certain that they are not an 'open membership' and you need to have some affiliation with the military or have parents in the military... The rates are good, but I've found Geico's rates to be slightly better and I'm considering giving up my USAA insurance..

Yup...go with GEICO...their computer even listed my VIN as an ES, but I have GAP insurance, so I'm covered if it gets totalled. I'm paying less than $70 a month for full coverage...if you have a clean record, GEICO rocks!

I second the Geico notion. I'm 23 years old. I turn 24 in September. I have a speeding ticket and accident on my record. My insurance doubled when I got both because they happened within a month of each other. But I am paying 1,400 every six months on Geico. I live in Long Island, NY.

Where'd you get the GAP insurance?

You guys with Geico......enjoy the rates now while you can. Once they individualy categorize the Evo, away from the normal Lancers, you will all very likely see a huge spike in your premiums.

Geico is one of these discount carriers I am talking about.

Hehe... you need to shop around. I will echo the call Geico advice. I currently use them and while I was sitting there adding my Lancer to my insurance policy I asked the guy for a quote based on a '03 Benz Cl55 which is a $60,000 car. $4000 for a year and that is for a 21 year old with 1 ticket. Shop shop shoppin' on heaven's dooooooorrrr!
