Installed LED tail light bulbs, now getting all 3 ACD lights lighting up solid.
I recently installed LED tail light bulbs in my tail lights. I did white LED's in the reverse, Amber in the turnsignals and 2 sets of red for the parking and brake lights.
I do have load resistors (from dafarmer69) but I have NOT installed those yet. Since I installed the LED's I do have fast blinking turn signals but I thought that it really did not bother me. I figured I'd just let them blink fast.
This morning on my way to work after driving for about 20 minutes all 3 of my ACD lights on the cluster lit up. I have seen by searching the forums that this is common sometimes when people put LED's in the tails. People have stated that by changing back to regular bulbs, it will remedy the problem.
I really like the LEDs, and I want to keep them. Does anyone know if the load-resistors will fix the problem? If so, do I need to get them for both the brake lights, and the turn signals?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I love the look of the LEDs.
Oh yeah, when I turn off the key and start the car again it goes back to normal, only one ACD light on.

I just read another thread with a guy with the same problem. I forgot to mention, I also changed my center-high-mount 3rd brake light to LED, I used a 7443 LED bulb.
His solution to the same problem was to go back to a standard incondescent bulb in the 3rd brake light.
I think a load resistor similar to the kind you use on the turnsignals should be the same according to current draw right?
So I just use a resistor on the high-mount?
I think this should work, but opinions or facts from others would be appreciated.

That's interesting.
Could always put black electrical tape over the gravel and snow setting ACD bulbs.
Does it cause the ACD to malfunction in any way or just a lighting glitch?

Everything works fine, it just lights up all 3. I am 99.99% positive this is related to the LED bulbs I have put in the rear end. It is the only new mod I have. The car has 7200 miles on it. The last mod I did was the Block-Back Exhaust and that was at 4300 miles. Right after all 3 came on I ran into a train that was coming across the road so I stopped and waited. I turned off the car and started her back up and everything was fine again. I have seen this in the forums I believe 2 other times. In the cases I read people just put back the stock bulbs and things worked perfectly. My guess is that according to the car, a load resistor across the 3rd brake light will make the car think the stock bulbs are back in. It should work, just looking to see if anyone else has tried this fix. I am trying to get a 3 OHM 50 Watt resistor. I was going to tape it to the bottom side of the package tray since it is just painted metal. The wires for the 3rd brake light are easy to get too.

The resistors I have are defarmer69's resistors. They are designed to work with the turnsignals. I think the problem is related to the brakelights. I will need to get a 3 OHM one, not a 6 OHM one.
Is this right?
Plus I'm at work, I would have to wait till I get home.

I have replaced pretty much all of the stock lights with Dafarmers LED setup except for the heads. My ACD is working normally but I have the load resistor installed. I cant see how a low resistance LEDs would cause your ACD light to all come on. I would install the resistors on the tails and go from there.
I have never had this problem. Nor has anyone said anything. I am willing to bet its the 3rd brake light. Thats why I dont sell just the bulb. It will mess with the abs. My bigger replacement led 3rd brakes draw enough power to not have a problem.
This is why I also ask if the evo has cruise. If it does I need to do something else.
Like I said this isnt an easy business. Its very to screw things up.
Then again it may just be a acd problem. just switch all the bulbs out. That will solve the problem.

I'm going to try putting a resistor on the center high mount. There is a guy who said swapping to a regular bulb on the high mount fixed his problem. The car should think a resistor is the exact same thing right?

I diagnosed the problem a little bit more with the help of defarmer69. It seems that the evo high mount brake light is tied to the ACD through the ABS somehow. I put a voltmeter on the leads and the car puts 1.0 volts through here even when your not pressing the brakes. With the key off obvoiusly there is zero voltage. When I hit the brakes with the car running it goes to 12-14 because the LED's light up.

I have not added the resistors yet, I notice that this only happens when I drive in the dark (lights are on)
I leave for work early in the morning and need my lights, this is when I get the problem of all 3 ACD Lighting up. After work its bright outside and I never have the problem..
Also, I can make the problem go away if I turn off the headlight, and running lights and then turn them back on. (the 3 ACD's go back to normal just 1 as soon as the parking lights turn off)
Wierd thing is I am running dafarmer69's running lights in the back.
