Waterpump on backorder for two months??

So, my waterpump started making an odd noise about two months ago. Took it to the dealer for warrantee. They advised the water pump was on back order. It's been over two months now and they still haven't gotten it in. Something doesn't seem right here..........

Also, they claimed they called Mitsubishi's corp office and they said it would be perfectly ok to drive on this until the part came in. I haven't been driving it, because I live in Phoenix and faulty waterpumps and the heat don't mix well.

Is there some waterpump shortage I should know about???

Seems like a small part to bs about. If it goes out in the heat here that would be bad news. Not sure why they would pull this. I am totally confused. It's not like it's the tranny or something.

So I just called them and spoke to the manager... It is actually the "water pump pulley"....

Urge to kill rising.... They never, ever said it was the pulley......... Still this seems extreme.. They are going to call back with a status. Wish me luck.

I would just be proactive and call up some other dealers near you and see what the situation is with them.

Thats why dealers suck (most of them at least). Any independent garage would find one from another shop or off ebay or something and get the car done in a couple days!! Whether its the waterpump or pulley. I know I would.

Yeah, thozzz water pump pulleys are like perishable fruit. They would fail even quicker if they had but a single moving part.

Screw that. Go troubleshoot it yourself and learn how to DIY if you are mechanically inclined. Otherwise go get a second opinion from someone who actually cares besides "stealerships and lameships".

I had to get an egr valve for my evo a couple of years back. My mechanic tried getting it via the dealer and still could not get it after 5 months. I went on mitsubishiparts.net and it was shipped to me in under 2 weeks.

Yeah normally I would but I only have 12k miles on my Evo 9 SE so I thought I would make them do the work. Shouldn't have to be wrenching on a car with 12k miles unless I want to add some mods. Going to do some more calling around Monday though. I am not sure what the deal is, I guess the pulley is bent and making it click. How they hell would it become bent.

haha that sucks man. Complete BS. My filler plug in my water pump blew out and I also got a small leak in the pump at the same time. Dealership replaced the pump under warranty and it was in stock. Two weeks later my headgasket blew and they proceeded to void my warranty but thats a whole different story...
