it'll be atleast as reliable as a 20 year old bmw. The evo, just like everything else, works great so long as you don't overlook the little(est) things. But if care is taken, then it's actually a pretty rock solid platform. I've put about 35k miles on two separate evos (both modded), and the only issues I've had was a bad egr sensor and a PIA exhaust rattle at 2k rpms that a BFH is going to fix soon.

I call mine the persuader.

I am sorry about your misfortune with your Evo, most are very solid cars. I hope I don't run into this down the road. I take every step to help prevent this from happening but you never know.

I was just talking to a buddy of mine who was also into DSMs and had the WORST luck ever with his '98 GSX. He went through 4 turbos, 3 trannys, 2 engines, and a slew of other problems. Me on the other hand have had 3 '92 6bolt/4bolts and the most severe problem I had was the syncros on one of the trannys, the original 14b went up on one of em at ~140k miles, and a radiator popped a leak.

There's plenty good as long as you treat it right and know what you're doing. The evo is no different from any other car people modify; you're taking a risk everytime you make a change. If you're not willing to accept that risk then keep it stock, and if you have trouble with it in its bone-stock form, bring it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

For me it was the opposite. When it was stock under 1000 miles, I always kept blowing clamps left and right (not a problem, just a inconvenience), but when I modded it, it went away and I haven't had ANY problems with it up to which I've accumulated 17k just now. I actually learned how to drive stick shift on this car and I'm still on stock clutch.

First of all, you have got to find a shop with the new Hunter balance and alignment machines. The balancer tags your wheels for proper placement (uni or directional) to reduce vibration and pull. The new alignment machine, along with a good tech, can work wonders.

Second, You can go back track to stock or pay a qualified shop to go over it in detail.

I had a $35 switch on my A/C break in the 3 years I've had my evo but I do go between beating her up on track then washing and maintaining her probably to a fault. I have however had cars that appearednot to be fond of me... They say there's always someone who cares more and gets hurt more in every relationship

i beat the ever livving hellllllll outta my car at the track and only problem I had was loosing the stock clutch with 40k on my 03 which JUST happened..

I drive normal on the streets but it doesnt really matter, when I get to the track I push the car to the absolute limit... hell i dont even have a wideband and I crank the boost until the car slows down haha

my car even looks brand new like it just rolled off the dealer floor, i wash it maybe once a month. Its an 03 daily driver with no brake peeling, no wing peeling...

try beating on the car :-) maybe that will solve your problems

sorry man

mine has 8900 very hard miles on it. I change the oil every 2k with royal purple, let it warm up before boostin, keep her clean and garaged.

I know its only 8900 miles, but no problems for me after 8900 pure abuse miles

Protective maintenance helps. Being not dependent on a mechanic is the key for understanding how a car works and keeping repair bills down.
