Evo VIII MR or new Civic Si?
As far as performance goes, there is no comparison... not that the Civic is bad, but the Evo is that good. Problem is most used Evo's will have been run hard which is why most people buy them to begin with. I honestly drive mine very easy, so I guess there are some other people out there like me, but i'd be nervous to buy a used Evo either way. Honda's reliability is hard to beat no matter what... they also have a good resale value. I'd go with the Honda unless you find an Evo with lower mileage or know the person who owned the Evo and how they drove it.
Ok here is my personal opinion on all of this....
I'm 21 and I have went through an array of vehicles already from my first car BMW 325i > Sable Station Wagon > Acura Integra > Hyundai Elantra > currently an Acura TL.
I've been blessed with a great job since I was 17 so money hasnt been too much of an issue as when i purchase my evo this year it will be fully paid off on purchase day all 20-30K upfront.
With that said I agree with everyone else here even with a good financial situation until November comes and a new president is appointed the Congress/Senate are going to keep raking the gas prices up until they bleed the american people dry. Why you ask?
Because Congress and Senate atm are Democrats and our president is obviously Republican their trying to make the Republicans look terrible (atm its no longer George Bush ruining this nation its the Democrats in office not passing laws and ignoring petitions).
I also agree that you are not ready for an Evo's power and for that matter you are not ready to purchase a "NEW" Si.
My opinion is go buy a 2006 Si. And or a 2002-2005 Civic. Honda is an amazing dealer with a massive aftermarket and a great learning car that is easy on the fuel economy.
When you break out of college and get a decent job that you can maintain then go for the Evo....(before you are married) unlike what the other guy said you will want to enjoy the Evo for what it is before the kids start coming.
Good Luck.

After owning both I would say Evo Evo Evo no questions asked. Although thats just me and I can afford it but the Evo is definatly more expensive to keep in top shape than the SI. If you have the funds to pay for everything and take good care of it go for it!
I've got a brand new Civic Si and my roommate has an EVO IX with some bolt ons.
If I were you, I'd take the Civic and pay it off as quick as possible. The civics really hold their value, and with gas prices shooting up, the performance to mpg ratio is going to get looked at even closer. I get around 32-34 mpg on the highway in my Si if I lay off the pedal on the on ramps, plus it still has some get up if you need it. 88k is a huge amount of miles on an Evo thats probably been beaten. I wouldn't buy a used Evo regardless of mileage just because I know how Mitsubishi works, and the nature of used performance vehicles.
Get the Civic, pay it off, save some money, buy the latest and greatest Evo. You're only 17, you got plenty of time.

IMO Civics are daily drivers, not 2nd cars or Toy. If you do buy a new Civic, sell the 91 Accord, because you will be wasting your money while the Civic sits in the garage depreciating.
i've got an '06 rsx type S which feels and rides almost identical to the civic as well as the evo and honestly during regular daily driving i HONESTLY enjoy driving both just as much.
For more spirited driving there is no comparison, the evo is by far much better to drive then. Figure out what you want in a car to begin with and that should settle the dispute pretty quickly since they are both (in my opinion) drastically different.

I'm willing to bet that if you go with the SI vs the Evo, you'll save yourself $20k over the course of five years. That cost difference is between gas, insurance, maintaince, depreciation and money saved being invested.
Im insured with firemans fund. At 1st they wanted quite a bit but my dad knew the person in charge and he got back to me with a lower price for the same coverage. Also I got a 35% discount since I went to drivers ed and my Evo also has Lojack.
We'll a Civic SI is probably going to be like $23k or $24k so why would you stick to just the $20k EVO with high miles. I'm sure you could find an EVO for $24k that has lower miles maybe 40k miles, original owner no mods etc. My 2 cents.
I just bought an 05 with 26k for 24.5k so that should give you a decent idea. And evos arnt to plentiful out here in Kansas.
Take it from me after having a 307ft lb tq FWD car....DONT DO IT!!!
Ofcourse the honda doesnt have close to that for torque, but you gotta ask your self Turbo w/ high torque or VTEC (Virtual Torqueless Economy Car).
Thats not evne a fair fight, Mike Tyson vs. a Toddler.

if you decide to get a used evo. better look in the for sale forums. you would find great deals and you could know the previous owner and know a little about the history. you can also look at you local evo forums for used evos.
