Why not consider the mazdaspeed3 or VW gti? Both are better cars than the civic si in my opinion.

civic looks like a vacuum, but thats just how i feel. If you are looking for a car with good gas mile then get the civic. In my case gas price really dont matter because i dont drive to that extend.

+1

The MS3 and GTI are both better I owned a GTI and its a great car if your looking for MPG, not to mention I bought a full size washing machine for my wife and fit it in the back in the box, and still smoked a prelude on the way hoem from best buy lol.

The GTI has better aftermarket then the MS3 but if your going for performance Evo man.

just thought ide say, im 18 and i have an evo. its just a gsr, but its low miles and well taken care of. i searched for 6 months to find one that i could AFFORD and was taken care of. i pay for everything of the car, except for insurance (my dad pays for all the insurance in my family, and the evo only costs him $160 a month and im the primary driver too)

Ide say now was my prime time to buy it. i have no other bills except this one so i can handle it. it just takes motivation for all those hours of work, and it all comes from THIS car... it gives me the motivation

The one where the transmission has to be rebuilt at a set of miles each time.

its all on what u want. the evo has much better performance. its going to be a lot faster and way more fun to drive.

but your going to have to pay way more. the evo cost a lot to maintain and the gas millage is very very bad. my life time average with the evo is 18mpg and 91 octane being $4.75 a gallon its costing me close to $60 per tank for only 200 miles. i DD my evo and i'm spend about $500-600 a month on gas.

you can expect to realisticly get 24-25mpg in the si about 40% better millage.

if you got the money they go a head and enjoy the evo but i'm telling you it gas and manintness will be at least double the cost of the civic.

Of course, I will probably hear crap because I am not an Evo owner, I however spend alot of time around and in Evolutions, so here we go:

I say go with the Civic. Your 17. You have no business owning an Evolution. Gas prices aside, it can be really tough somtimes keeping up with these cars, especialy when you abuse them as most of their owners do. Your also talking about a used car, so you are never for certain how it was cared for or driven before you, so it's a roll of the dice. Add in the fact it's a Mitsubishi, and you have a recipie for trouble if your parents want you to have a reliable daily driver.

The truth of the matter is despite what alot of the fanboys on here think, in day to day life, or even on the track, AWD vs FWD dosn't make a difference. It dosn't sound like you really want to go drag racing, it sounds like you want a fun car to drive.

My daily driver is a 2007 Honda Civic LX 5 speed manual. It's no Si, but I love it to death. I love the way it looks, the fit and finish is lightyears ahead of anything Mitsubishi makes, and it gets good gas economy. Not to mention it's a Honda, so reliablity pretty much isn't an issue at all, neither is future resale value. The new Civics are really sick, and I love the two tier style instruments. The Si's K series engine is an awesome NA four cylinder, and like most Civics, the aftermarket is there for sure.

The only known issue with the 06-08 Si's are their gearboxes, some of them have been known to pop out of third. If you are considering a brand new Civic, this will not be an issue regardless, as you will have your warranty. If your considering a used one, have it scoped out before you buy.

Id say all good points other then the AWD/FWD comment. It really does make a difference, even for overall enjoyability. Most of my friends out here have WRX's and STI's and there are just certain roads I cant even mess around with them on at the speeds they go. And my GTIs suspension was really good considering.

But that brings us back to the point of him being 17. There isn't any reason that justifies the need of AWD in his case, what business does he have taking twisties at high speed in ANY car, regardless of FWD/RWD/AWD.

I also believe in general, even in a case with sombody with more years of driving experiance than him, AWD is not always the answer to everything. Most people do not bring their car to the dragstrip all of the time, let alone the "twisties". AWD is not a nessesity. Unless you are building some nasty 500whp car, or plan on launching at the track on a regular basis, RWD, or even FWD will suffice for most people. And go to some autocross events, and talk to some guys with Lotus Elises, Honda S2000s, and even some nicely setup Integras, and see how horrible they are doing without AWD
