Get a new civic. If you are not making at least 60k a year you are not going to be able to maintain an EVO. Evo is faster and FAST cost a lot of money. Take the civic learn to drive it keep it for a few years and then get an Evo.

I also believe in general, even in a case with sombody with more years of driving experiance than him, AWD is not always the answer to everything. Most people do not bring their car to the dragstrip all of the time, let alone the "twisties". AWD is not a nessesity. Unless you are building some nasty 500whp car, or plan on launching at the track on a regular basis, RWD, or even FWD will suffice for most people. And go to some autocross events, and talk to some guys with Lotus Elises, Honda S2000s, and even some nicely setup Integras, and see how horrible they are doing without AWD
Yeah I see your point and it is valid ofr the most part. I mean AWD is a god send in the snow, my GTI was a ***** from a dig going up hill if it wasn't plowed completely.

And those FWD have how much money thrown into suspension?

But yeah he is young and Im a firm believer in walking before running so learning how to drive on a FWD car instead of jumping into an AWD and thinking itll just eat any corner you throw at it is a good idea.

But still you have to wonder he buys the SI now and goes to buy an Evo a few years from now....low mileage VIII and IX's are gonna be harder and harder to find as time goes on.

Id still go with a GTI or MS3 over the SI....but Im not a Honda fan at all.

Ok well i didnt want to read all 6 pages but ill put in my .02. If you are just looking at thoes two cars, and as much as i want to say get the evo, givin your income and your age you will be better off buying the civic si. $20,000 for a evo 8 with 86,000 is kinda a lot man.

I remember when i was 17. I bought a brand new $18,000 dollar car. My dad payed for my insurance. But with the car payment, gas, and regular maintenance man i was barly making it. Because then you want to take girls out, go out with friends, party, ect. If i had a car that wasnt under warrenty and it broke on me, i would of been screwed. Now i been in the military 5 years and i was able to buy a brand new Evo X and i love every day.

Bottom line is for you, the civic si will be better for you right now, and once you figure out what you are going to do with your life and you have more money coming in, just trade that civic for a brand new Evo. But if you still want and evo then look other place rather then that one place. I have seen evo VIII sale for about $17,000 with only like 40,000 - 60,000k. You just have to look. Hope this helps.

+1 on the trade in , civics hold their value so good that I dont think there is another car that can beat, a friend recently sold is 05 for 14k and 30k miles and he bought it for $16k new , thats 3 years at $55/ month wow

Why do people keep talking about depreciation on here?? Have you checked the prices of used EVO's? Especially the IX's. They are going to be worth some money if they are held onto long enough... i've been saying that and fully believe it.

but your going to have to pay way more. the evo cost a lot to maintain and the gas millage is very very bad. my life time average with the evo is 18mpg and 91 octane being $4.75 a gallon its costing me close to $60 per tank for only 200 miles. i DD my evo and i'm spend about $500-600 a month on gas.

you can expect to realisticly get 24-25mpg in the si about 40% better millage.

if you got the money they go a head and enjoy the evo but i'm telling you it gas and manintness will be at least double the cost of the civic.
If you've only gotten 18 mpg over the life of the car, then you obviously need driving lessons when it comes to getting better mileage... you also have 500 whp on your avatar.. what do you expect you're going to get with that much power? There are guys all over this forum who get 300-330 miles on a tank which is about 23-24 mpg.

Have you checked the prices? You can pick up a used VIII in my part of the country with less than 80k miles on it for as low as $17,000. Thats horrible considering the cost of them new, and only being four or five years old. Regardless, how are you coming up with the idea that ANY Mitsubishi has a better resale value than that of ANY Honda or Toyota? It's not happening, man.

Every car is different, but I believe Evolutions will be like DSMs in a few years. They will continue to get modded and beat, crashed and parted out, but the price of them will continue to drop. Eventualy it will get to a point where the price will stabilize, and mabey a few good condition ones will be worth somthing, but thats not saying that Evolutions as a whole will be worth alot of money.

Depends on what car we are talking about. Everyone knows that Integras and Civics handle awesome, but SRT-4s and DSMs don't. You can't just lump all FWD cars into the same catagory, just as you can't with AWD cars. With that kind of reasoning, you can say that a Ford Escape (or whatever those crappy Ford crossover SUVs are) AWD can handle better than an Integra Type R. Negative. But in my opinion, it dosn't take much more than a nice set of tires, coil overs, and mabey a few other bits and pieces to make a car like an Integra or EG Civic handle amazingly. The same stuff that Evo guys do all the time anyhow.

Lumping a FWD car with a FWD car is not the same as comparing AWD suv and a FWD car. Yes each car display its own charateristics but there are certain traits that you cant escape. Now do all awd cars and SUVs handle better in the know then all RWD cars? Id say more then likly. Im not lumping all FWD cars together as ofcourse there are better handling FWD cars then other FWD cars. But the fact remains the more traction you have the quicker your goign to take off.

Brand new snow tires are gonna perform better bald summer UHPs. because traction is traction. Yes you can compensate for the FWD cars weakness but only so much. An integra with the suspension done up isnt gonna handle as well with an Evo or STI thats got a done up suspension.

Not to mention traction from a dig is a big deal with FWD cars, not so much with the Hondas since they usually have no torque. My main point was your starting with a better base with na evo when it comes to handling...a lot better.

Tranismission problem?... wtf As long as you dont abused your transmission you wont need a new one.
DONT listen to sone people in here...it's all mis-inform. Bad info like this this from others here, you better off to make your own decision. Get the car you like best... so you wont regret.

The two cars you have them compared here are equally reliable. The high mileage on the evo look really bad to some evo owner here becasue most of them babied their evos.... imagine 10-20yrs later when people are looking to buy a used evo VIII-IX .... 60-80K miles isn't so at at all.
Gas mileage on both are pretty close the civic average about 20-28mpg just like the evo. If you know anything about driving those civic you know you need to be where the powerband is at so most of the time you're almost reline the car for the power to come alive...which mean you probalby burn as much fuel as you would to drive a evo.

You should not have start this tread in the first place if you do not like people telling you to get the civic si.

Compression tests won't show you an oil pump about to fail, a rod bearing that is starting to fail, or a timing belt that is about to snap. Not quite as simple as that.

And not all of them are slow, there are a few Civics here in Jacksonville alone that not only stomp the crap out of Evos, but modded LSX powered Camaros and Trans Ams as well!

Are you comparing a modified civic to a stock Evo? Apples and oranges you can make ANY car go fast with the time and resources.

While I agree they are fast, 1 outta every 1000 civic is a 9 second car but the other 999 are POS. Granted I dont like civics because where Im from theyve instilled an image of Rice that I cant shake. The kind of car that has 3 different colored fenders and a 4" muffler that sound like **** and pull up next to me to race while his driver side mirror hangs off the car by a wire and flaps in the wind.

The SI isnt a bad car...but there are better.

I didn't read the whole thread, but by judging the title - what kind of questions is this?
