walbro vs. factory fuel pump

Is there an easy way to tell if the factory fuel pump has been changed to a 255L when you remove the cover plate under the rear seat without completely removing the pump? (ie. different colored plug, etc.)

Maybe.Try to start the car and let it idle. If it has a walbro 255 you will hear it.

I agree. I have a Walbro 255 and it is much louder that the stock pump. You can hear it at idle. You can really hear it if you put your head at the left rear tire area.

lets say that the pump was installed already when I bought the car... i just want to make sure that it is the Walbro before I get tuned or else I want to replace it this next week. I was told that there was a 255l was installed at one point, I just want to make sure it's still in there.

I can tell you that if it's the stock one, it should have a Mitsu symbol on the top of it under all that dirt and dust.
But re-reading your post i'm thinking you meant you know it's a 255L but you don't know if it's a Walbro

Yeah... mine doesn't whine...

So pull it out and find the part number on the bottom, Walbro 255 number is #342

after figuring out that there was no way getting around it, I pulled it. The walbro is in there. Definately no whine on this one, so I am ready to get my tune next weekend! TTP Engineering did my first email reflash and a good one at that at the time, but now with the FPgreen, 780cc inj, and alky kit, it's time to step it up a notch!

A quick mod list:

FP EvoGreen Turbo w/upgraded Wastegate
Megan Racing TBE
Injen hard Upper and Lower IP and Intake (K&N Filter)
Turbosmart dual port BOV
Hallman PRO RX MBC
ACT MB7 HDSS Clutch
Walbro 255l Pump
780cc PTE injectors
SMC/Buschur Alky Injection kit w/M10 nozzle
GSC 272i/264e cams
NGK BP7ES plugs, Have BP8ES plugs avail.
AEM UEGO wideband AFR
GReddy TT

Should be a fun car!

Mine normally doesn't except after getting off the highway and if I have been a little hard on the car. Then it sounds like a freakin air plane lol.

My walbro was loud as hell. Especially if it was hot out, and the pump went into double duty. Sounded like a damn generator.
