For some reason, my gas filler door stopped popping open when I pull the release lever inside. The lever is still connected, still pulls the catch back and appears in working order. Right now I have to prop the lever up with my wallet then slide a credit card behind the door to open it. When I do this, it opens without a issue.

Is this a known issue? I couldn't find anything related to this in search. Thanks for the help!

 

Grease is the word. I would grease the release pin, and also unscrew the door hinge assembly and bend out the spring a little to make it stronger. I bet it's just lost some of its mojo.

 

03 Evo in Florida and the gas flap has lost it's spring ability. I am gambling that the spring has rusted and broke or, as previously stated, has just lost its Mojo!

What a coincidence. You mention your gas door won't pop open and here I go to look at mine and it works. But as soon as I touch the spring (barely tap it without any force) it breaks. what a piece of poo.

 

ok i looked and i'm not seeing any spring. Where is it?

 

That happened on my evo 3 a while back, i used a table knife to open it while i had my cousin pull the latch, the release pin probably needs some grease, it broke or fell off.

 

There is a spring tensioner in the door hinges. It probably came undone. Its like 8 bucks from the dealer.

 

It looks like an M on its side and colored black. Cheap plastic junk.
