how to keep car quiet when warming up?
It's honestly better to drive it right from the time it starts but take it slow. Keep rpms and the load/boost/etc level low to non existent and wait for it to warm up. Idling excessively isn't good for your car.
^^^ WHAT??? Since when did idling become bad for your car? If that's the case, I'm screwed, I idle my car too much or I don't idle it enough and just get out and drive... what's the story?!?!?
I will admit that creeping with your car is probably ok because it allows the drivetrain components to warm up

I warm up my car every weekday at 6:30 am sorry about the neighbors but hey...they haven't complained yet, warm up as long as you need to untill they star complaining, if they don't then your OK
What is with this warming up the car stuff anyway? All you are actually doing when you idle it for such long periods of time is fouling your sparkplugs and degrading your motor oil.
I think I just read four pages of the most uneducated posters ever
Did anyone read his question.....hes not asking what anyone thinks about there own neighbors, or how to drive the car hot or cold, or best start up procedures
To the OP (I actually took the time to read your question) so I won't fill your thread with my thoughts of my car, my neighbors, blah, blah, blah...I think a silencer you add and remove is your best bet.
If your rear muffler is straight in about 10 inches (my magnaflow is not and is angled) than you can buy a racing silencer sold for motercycles. A local CT guy uses this.....its a tubuler silencer raped in insulation so it won't scratch the inside of your tip or muffler and held in by a bolt. Makes the car as quiet as stock...and you could pull it out once your a few blocks away.
I would love to do this to my own car
........but as I said my muffler won't allow it.

Oh man I had the same problem but a large streetport rotary at 0430 brappp brapp brapping , I started getting complaints so my technique I used to use in the mornings.
Get a thick old sweater a old pair of shorts that have a tie string on them.
Rip the tie string off and keep the locking clip. Then on the neck of the sweater make a series of holes so you can run the string through. Now thats the part that will go over your exhaust.
Simply slip it over the exhaust a WALLA a simply muffled exhaust when you are done remove it.

I just stick the silencer into the tip. When its warmed up I use a pair of long needle nose pliers to remove it. Or I simply dont care some mornings. My hand usually gets a light coating of carbon on it if the silencer gets stuck.
I know that my Evo is pretty loud, but it is mandatory for me to warm up my car before I drive, especially when I haven't driven my car for several hours. My Evo drives and shifts horrible if I start driving it when it's cold. And I never warm up my car inside my garage with all the doors shut (can be very harmful to health). I either back my car outside the garage and let it run, or I open my garage door and then reverse my Evo out enough so at least the rear end is out to let the exhaust gasses out. I can't stand trying any other way, even if it bothers my neighbors.
