Went to dealer for new steering wheel

Well went to dealer and asked if my steering wheel is covered under warranty (don't see why not). Well 20 minutes later he finally got around to taking a picture and he has to send it to Mit. and they have to approve it. Arg... shouldn't be a problem but more running around. Said the decision is up to them but they've done a few before. Just pissed me off since everyone who came in after me got service before me...I know the guy was working as *** off but it sort of pissed me off.

Anyway... steering wheel isn't too bad but it's kind of annoying to turn the wheel and feel the "leather" coming off. After it came off it feels more like thin cloth. It's thinner than paper and probably see through. That, along with the scuff marks/weather CF and radio dash parts, are really pissing me off and I'll need to find someplace to buy replacement parts at some point.

Dealer declined my warranty claim for the steering wheel but volunteered to replace my calipers and spoiler under warranty while I was there. seemed kinda Ironic that they wanted to replace the more expensive part but declined to replace the cheapest of the parts and the one I came in there to ask about.

Yeah Mitsubishi has this section of our dealer link where the service department has to take photos and submit them for approval. Its something that none of our other manufacturers do.

It just retarded, imo. It's coming off. Friend had his shift boost replaced on his cavlier and they didn't do any of this. As much as people rip on GM, I had no trouble ever with warrenty work. Even though I only had a Sunfire, I complained about every little sound I found and they fixed it. I was still in college and buying a car brand new was a big thing to me, and I wanted it perfect, even if it was their lowest lineup. Never did really have anything wrong with it other than initial squeaks.

i think this is a pretty common issue for our cars. i know a bunch of guys whos steering wheels are really faded and thin in spaces. when it first started happening to mine id get out of the car with little bits of the leather on my hands. i might try to get this warrantied too before its too late. let us know the outcome.

my IX had stitching coming off and there were no questions... they just put a new one on... 1,100.00 though... that's why it has to be approved

My steering wheel was peeling slightly on the bottom and Mitsu replaced under warranty. Also, lower clip of my drivers seat kept falling off and the whole seat was replaced too. Never hurts to ask on wear and tear items.

do you use any cleaning products on your steering wheel? The vast majority of audi wheels never peel (im an audi tech) but we have had a couple ppl have problems and they seem to come for the use of cleaners or hand lotion type products.
