The need for [economical] speed...

At this point in the game with my Evo, I want to make the car faster, but cannot afford a full blown system all at once. The first thing I really want is an XEDE, because it is the most comprehensive and user friendly piggyback for my needs.

I have, however, thought about what would be an economical way to have some exhaust work done until I can get a full blown turbo-back system. From all my experiences in the past, the most restrictive (and heavy) parts of a factory exhaust system are the (1) muffler and (2) cat. Since the OEM piping doesn't seem to be super restricticve, I wonder what a Buschur test pipe and a Works exhale (or hopefully, a more economical muffler delete pipe) would do for flow with management. Any thoughts on this?

Hey first off this is WRBLUEWAGON from Nasioc. Danny's Friend Congrats on the EVO. And welcom to the EVO Empirer.

The Test pipe is worth it. about 50 bucks from Pruven, I have the Pruven one on my car.

Works's little Muffler delete pipe is a bit spend for a pipe with a nice tip. Pruven Sales theres for like 270.00 were works is a bit more and not a muffler.

But there is a addtional restriction in the pipe after the cat. Mid pipe. Talking to Vishnu there is a good gain there about 5 to 7 hp on there dyno. So you migh be better off buying a full cat back. There are meny options and for a buget minded person look a RRM for like 380 full 3in SS exhaust with a bullet muffler. Bang for the buck.

Downpipe or front pipe also has some restiction and also the 02 housing. I have not heard much power from the downpipe but at least a few ponys 4 or so I would think.

Now the EVO's Ecu is much more forgiving then the WRX's So tune should be much easlyer and also Vishnu does have some good base maps.

Also cam gears a cheap but good power mod. With EM!!

Thanks Eric! I had no idea that was you. I miss my vf30 wagon sometimes. I sure don't miss the handling, gear spacing, or brakes, but dang I miss the acceleration. All the mods I sold from that car went into my down payment on this car to make the amount I borrowed lower. I just didn't want to borrow too much. The only part that sucks about this now is that I have to wait to get mods, and IT IS KILLING ME.

My car is just a hair slower (in some spots) in acceleration than my friend's Vishnu Stage 1 WRX with an STi intercooler. That really bites. I at least want this thing to be as fast as my vf30 WRX was. Hopefully I can remedy that soon. Do you get a CEL with your test pipe?

Thanks,

Seth

Well that does not make sense. I went head to head with a PE1818f car with full supporting mods and there was about a fender diffrance between him and me. Now just a test pipe nothing less. This was at 135. My car laid down 241 stock and 246tq at the wheels.

oh yes cell with the test pipe and I'm not willing to cut into my o2 harness so I'm just living with the cel. If you don't want cels don't mod the car.

My vf30 car trapped 105. I just can't see this car doing that stock at all.

Edit: I have 93 octane, but I can guarantee you I'm not making 241whp. I'm thinking high 220s low 230, but need to get on the dyno to verify.
