Going to the X? I'm not sure but with this economy i don't think you will be happy with it, lol. I think private party you should be able to get 22k for it +/- a thousand depending on the condition.

but if you dont trade it in you will have to pay taxes all over again on the new car.. in most areas

you dont have to pay taxes on the amount of money you get on your trade in, so if you get 20k for your trade in and you get the car for 30k, then you only have to pay taxes for 10k..

This may be true but i'm sure the dealer will give him so little vs the private party sale that it won't be an issue to pay another 1000 in tax for the 20k. I don't think you will ever make out ahead when trading a car in.

the dealership offered me 21k for my 9 mr. i was like 'u crazy' . By the way my car is in excellent condition, 25k miles, stock. The guys said we can only offer kelly blue book - fair value. If i wanted to sell it on autotrader, i'd get at least 24k.

Wow, talk about spitting in your face. I was offered 22k with a blown motor at a mistu dealer to trade up to a fully loaded X GSR, which they were going to sell me at 500 over invoice.

I said thanks for the sweet deal, but I love my IX to much. With whats happened to my poor car lately, I kind of wish I had taken the deal, esp since they would have been paying off my car plus an extra 1500. But I also didn't want to lose out on my Nav/head unit, alarm system or new clutch.

lol, funny. Every dealership is gonna be different. Depending on the salesmen, depending on the GSM or NCM or UCM, whoever appraises the car, usually the UCM. They do go by kbb, and no matter how well your car is to you, they are gonna put it in the "fair" catagory.

Don't ask how I know this, but most of the time. When the salesmen does his "walk around" on the car. He is looking for little things to deduct on a "score sheet". Most of the time, they don't even care what shape the care is in..lol.

Just play it smart. Its all about hustling. Always shop around, never ever buy a car at the first dealership you go to. Also, if you do trade in a car and say you get 22k for it, everytime someone trades their car in, they get a tax credit that goes into the price of the new car. So thats like another 2k you get off the new car or 2k more for your trade in, depending on the state your in, it'll be different, depending on your states tax, whichever way you wanna look at it, its still 2k more you get.

Remember, its a hustle game. Learn how to negotiate and you'll get a great deal...like me when I got my 06' SE with 13 miles on it for 29k out the door, taxes and other fees included.

It always takes a little negotiating to get where you want to be. Good way to do it is go in knowing all the facts on what you are buying and what you are trading in. They are always going to low ball you right away just to see what kind of buyer you are. First thing I do when they do that is tell them well you have a nice day. You usually make it about half way out the door and they are like wait wait what are you looking to get for it. Go way high like 5k over book and watch the look on their faces. They'll be like let me talk to my manager...then they usually come around and give you a lot better deal. It's a business the more they rape you for the more they bring home. Just got to be willing to walk away if need be...especially when buying new...they have the same car across town.

yea, i walked away after they lowballed my evo. I will never trade in my evo. I would rather sell it myself and get alot more. Plus the sales guy didn't know a thing about the evo X (he must have either been new or he was selling hyundais all his life and filled in for the mitsu guy. He said it has a "supercharger" LOL.
