Ah storage - a rodent could have climbed up into your car and made a home in the wiring/chewed on them. They are attracted to the electric hum.
Check fuses, but my guess is something ate wires. When you turned on the fan, the exposed wiring touched something and fried it (smoked). Thats why the fans worked then. But now since the wires have fried - nothing works. Or the outside chance a fuse popped - saving a fire.
You might want to go to a audio shop or dealer. They can check all the wiring to see where it is messed up.
ktk and I share the worried on an electrical fire. I have seen cars go up from them.

Ah yes, this explanation makes the most sense so far given your symptoms! Good call SmikeEvo.

sounds like when my heater stopped working after I drove my car the first time getting home from Iraq. It was in storage and my heat worked for like 2 hours. Thank god mistu actually fixed it under warrenty.

The only things in the heater box I can think of are the blower itself and maybe a resistor block. So, yeah, take it to the dealer. If they have a problem fixing this then you know you don't want them tackling any real problems.

if you have your warranty just take it to a dealer
as long as its not a rodent that crawled up in there and caused it, it will be fixed under warranty.
if its a heater core, that is a lot of work to do and heater cores are not cheap. but if your that afraid of taking your car to a dealer and would rather throw away money doing it yourself, good luck
