I got some new toys!

I finally decided to get some upgrades for my Evo. I purchased everything from members on the forum. This is a Evolutionm built ride I found someone doing a large part out and purchased a custom 6265 turbo kit. A Shep built 4:11 tranny with a Spec twin disk. a custom 4" intercooler w/3" piping and a custom DP. I had installed a walbro 255 and 880cc injectors along with hks 264's and some red fidenza cam gears for bling
For looks I installed some Evo x rims on Apexi N1's
Now my problem is a tune. The garage that installed my stuff didnt have someone who could tune a stock ecu. Now I have 2 choices.
1) I can leave the car in my garage with all the new goodies just waiting till I can scrape up $1000 for Scott Segal at Topspeed to tune my car.(Thats ballpark for head studs and tune btw.)
2) I can purchase some head studs find an intall guide and figure out the order and torq spec of said bolts and find a good mail in tuner.

I guess my question is How much of a difference is it between most mail in vs dyno tunes.

I'm glad someone pointed this out!

Very nice looking, OP. Based on what you say, I can't tell if you've ever had a tune. IMO I wouldn't waste money on a mail-in but instead get a road-tune or dyno-tune assuming the level of upgrades you have here without a proper tune.

I wouldn't recommend driving much with upgraded cams without a tune, btw. I imagine there is someone reputable in your area closer to the $300 - $400 range. Good luck!

Do the headstuds yourself, as for the tune, look into Mellon. He does email tunes that are excellent!

Im sure most of the email tunes would be good enough. But I really think to get the most out of any setup, 1) the tune constantly needs to be adjusted to compensate for changes (weather, altitude, gas...) and 2) it should be done on a dyno or track.

I had a pretty bad experience with a email tune when I first bought my car. But now tune myself and even though I know its not 100% of what it could be, its safe.

setup looks nice BTW

get it tuned locally!... a lot of people have had many problems with "mail-in tunes"... to make sure everything is in perfect working order your best choice to do it a local tuner...just my opinion...nice setup and goodluck
