EVO VIII Rumor
EVO VIII Rumor

Reports from the USA suggest the next "Evolution" of Mitsubishi's performance Lancer, known across the world and world famous as a result, could hit the roads by early next year, albeit in the North American market -- but there are scarce few details regarding how this would affect the firm's current World Rally programme.
Called quite simply the "Evolution Eight", or Code VIII, rumours suggest the new model will see the return of the large circular front foglamps popular with the outgoing Evo VI but not present on the new Evo VII. Automatic transmission, still a supreme rarity on previous cars, is also hinted at. Greater torque also gives the road car more edge giving it a raw feel enthusiasts loved the previous VI for.
Due to Japanese restrictions it is unlikely the power output will increase from 280bhp, although Ralliart's progress on the forest stages may help this cause -- even if the team is still looking for much-needed speed from the first Evolution World Rally Car which debuted in September last year.
Team drivers Francois Delecour and Alister McRae hope for more on the loose stages, starting with Cyprus on April the 19th.
The latter was quoted as once telling the British media: "We can probably win a rally on pace alone with this car."
Team boss Andrew Cowan even fears the Lancer WRC won't come up to scratch for the rough gravel, he is the first voice within the team to do so.
His fears concern 'something' at the front of the car which is eliminating grip.
The Scot was quoted by wrc.com as saying: "We think it's something to do with the front of the car. It's not fine-tuning or a computer. It's a chunk of time we need to find. It'll affect us on the loose too: you get good grip on gravel these days."
Cowan feels problems could be solved in time for the launch of the "Step II" version of the car. Finland is the most likely rally for the car to make it's debut but as of yet, 333-UK is not assured of any confirmation.
Mitsubishi will compete in the WRC until the end of 2005 at the earliest, but owners DaimerChrysler are only interested in keeping the brand in the sport if "the results are good". The Evo VIII is unlikely to appear as a competition car until 2004 or later -- an interesting clash in the Japanese marque's plans.

All I need is a MOPAR sticker on my new Lancer EVO or will it be my "Laser EVO" Yuck!
I thought it might be from a reliable source.
