Possible Info that we ARE getting the Evo VIII not VII
Possible Info that we ARE getting the Evo VIII not VII
Here is info from a reliable source inside Mitsubishi.
Notice it says "WORLD LAUNCH"
Here it is. (Although I did delete some of it to honor the wishes of the person):
"We'd love to be able to announce details, however this vehicle will be introduced in a "world launch" in late January. Therefore, all the specs are highly secret at this time. Since you seem to have a business interest, if you will respond with more information about your operations (address/phone) we'll add you to our media list to receive information as soon as it is available.
..
For now, you many correspond with me, but I would ask you NOT to give out my email address to potential buyers, as I am unable to respond to non-media, non-business inquiries."

I will try and give it more info as it becomes available
BTW, someone else that works at
told me this recently:
"At the moment we do not have any information from the engineering department. Our product planning has not released any detailed information as they are still making changes. "
The first source is better though.

Yup, It does sound pretty promising that we will be getting the Evo VIII after all. I guess its gonna all come down to the ol' "Hurry up and wait" until we do hear something offical. It would be nice to know what mitsu actually plans to do with the Evo VIII, as far as cosmetics, suspension, and engine.

Someone on here recently said that on the marketing end they were going to release advertisements during a very large television event. I believe the Superbowl is around late January correct?

I got this message from the MLR. Thought it might be useful for people who want to know more about the Evo 8. Hopefully this one will be the one you guys get in the states in 2003.
[QUOTE]But a tuner m8 of mine (he specializes in Hondas) just got back from Japan yesterday, and had the opportunity to drive an Evo 8 development car / prototype, or a very limited version of the 7 (a 7.5?).
He was at the Tsukuba circuit (same one used in most of the Best Motoring videos) with guys from Spoon (well known Honda tuning house), and while there, Mitsubishi and a team from Jun were testing the Evo 8 versus the 7 and 6.
The car looks much like the current 7. While he couldn't comment on how the 8 compares to he 7-- as he has never driven the latter-- these were some of the differences that were pointed out to him:
- lighter body (some panels in carbon fiber);
- revised suspension
- revised brakes
- 6-speed tranny
- projector-type headlights
- more powerful engine
Note that from what he was told, it seems that the car may be a very special-edition model used to homologate some new bits for WRC use. Certainly the car is going to be available in very limited quantities, as 5 units have been earmarked for Jun.
My m8 has a copy of the specsheet, and as soon as I get my grubby mitts on it, I shall post here any additional information.
PLEASE don't shoot me if the above turns out to be false! I am only excitedly reporting what he told me over the phone this evening, as I thought people here would be intersted to hear any such news on ANY new Evo versions.
Cheers!
