well i'm pissed

Today I went to a buddies shop to check out his turbo Z28. We were talking and he left to go tune it on the road. He called and said he blew a fuse so we took him another. We decided to follow him just in case he blew another. Well he did and we ended up on the side of the road. We're all standing htere and this big *** tanker truck rolls by and we hear this noise come from the back on my car. I walk to the back and see nothing but and big dent and paint missing all the way down to the metal. Now I have to get that fixed and my front bumper fixed from when my fiance's aunt backed in to it.

I'm not going to be able to do any kind of mod being I'm gonna be too busy fixing the paint all the time. I can't have a freaking break for anyhitng.

Well since I can't get any sympathy from any of you maybe you can be kind enough to answer a question or two.

I won't have to have the whole trunk painted would I? I have the "EVOLUTION VIII" badge on the back and I don't want to have to loose it or buy another. I guess they could just blend it in.

I'm confused, so the truck drives by and how does this mess up the paint on your trunk?

Its an interesting story, but missing just enough information to make it thoroughly confusing.

Sorry....I didn't realize I left out the part about the rock.

There must have been a rock laying on the road as the tanker went by and he must have hit it sending it in the air and into my trunk lid.

I've seen travel paint repair guys before...they will come to your house and to touch up paint to your car...you don't have to paint the whole thing.

By law, any object that is thrown from/ dropped off of/ or kicked up by a vehicle on the road is considered an extension of that vehicle. I was driving on the interstate the other day and a truch was passing me in the left hand lane (I was doing 70, he was doing about 85). Ahead on the road was a wooden pallet, in the left hand lane. When he passed me, he ran over it and threw chunks of wood debris all over the place. Even after swerving into the emergency lane to avoid the bulk of the shrapnel, I still got hit with a bunch of ****. After I composed myself and looked over at the girl that was with me, she asked me "aren't you going to do anything about that?" I punched it and caught up with the truck. To make it even better, it was a female truck driver....No, I'm not being sexist.

So I got the name of the trucking company and called the 1-800-555-1212 directory assistance when I got home and asked for a listing for that company. I called them and told them what happened and that there was damage done to my car because of driver neglect from one of their employees. They are going to have it estimated and write me a check to fix it. What was damaged? Front bumper scratched all to hell, mesh grill in front of FMIC bent back in and resting damn near the intercooler, some of the FMIC heat sink fins were bent up pretty bad. Perhaps I will get the FMIC included in the repair charges....hehehe....

If you know the company of the truck, make them pay for it.

They can't drive around like they own the roads. There are rules and one of them isn't "my truck is bigger, therefore I win."

It was easier for you to catch them. I was standing outside my car when it happened. Oh well stuff happens and I can't stop it so I'll just get it fixed when I get back from my honeymoon.

<---- getting married tomorrow.

Too bad it wasn't a truck that stands out like those orange Schneider or yellow Ryder trucks.

I bet you could plant some explosives on a Ryder truck and blame it on that unibomber or whatever....

Ok...I'm in the car business, we paint probably 10 vehicles a week...

You could blend it in, but it will not look nearly as good. Now they could do a really good job and you might not be able to notice...but I wouldn't do it. I can notice the differences very easy. I would pay someone who has a booth to paint it, maybe even remove the panels, trunk to do a really good job.

Well I went to a collision place today and got a estimate. To get my bumper and trunk lid repainted will cost almost $700. The only bad thing is I have the UK "EVOLUTION VIII" badge and that is gonna cost another 80-90 bucks as well. That's if I can still get one or not.

Insurance can cover this as a hit and run, which will not cause your premium to go up and will not charge you any deductible.

Look into that route, too.
