My money is on a rock getting kicked up/pinched under truck tire and shooting out. Scary no doubt

I know it is possible to have a faulty point in the glass. We had our windows up, the AC was on and it wasn't a overly hot day out, the car only had 15,000 km. Wow now that I know that this has happened to someone else, i am definately fighting this.
Sounds exactly like my case. Mitsu denied me as well. Please let me know what you find out and feel free to link to this post.

Tempered glass can just spontaneously shatter ... it happens. It's not even a rare occurrence, just uncommon.

Well in my case we were the only ones driving east in the right lane on the road and one car was driving west in the left lane, there was also a 3' concrete barrier separating the 2, it is hard to believe that a rock was shot across over the barrier and happen to hit my driver side window. It is just hard to believe.

I have seen it happen on mkiv Jettas. If the rear window bolts that connect the glass to the regulator aren't torqued properly it will cause the glass to shatter without notice. I would just pay out of pocket for it though, it shouldn't be more than an hour of labor.
