EVO has me stumped

Ok so I just had my motor built no change to the motor still 2.0 only difference is it was bored over 20. I made 350 on pump gas last time on the dyno. I got on the dyno this weekend and it made 278 big difference. It was giving 0-2 counts of knock on 10 or so pulls and then started giving 36 counts of knock. We got out of the gas and got it off the dyno and noticed the exhaust cam was off one tooth probably why the motor loss power. After getting that adjusted the car is still giving huge counts of knock. I adjusted my knock multiplier tables to 18 low mid 20 and high no change and its still giving large counts of knock. I was running race gas the whole time. I have no idea what the car is doing but its pulling timing bad and logging lots of knock. Any ideas out there?

Fueling issue? Injectors, Pump
Boosting Issue?

Did you mess with anything in the tune?
Plugs fresh?
You say you slipped time. Did you damage anything in the process? Valve, Lifter, Spring

He is actually right. Our knock sensors are very sensitive and sometimes pick up noises from outside the engine such as a downpipe rattling on a crossmember.

To the OP, make sure your knock sensor was properly tightened with a torque wrench. Unfortunately, many built engines are just noisier than stock engines so the sensor picks up more sound, especially with your balance shaft removed.

i thought that could be the case that it was just noisier but it made about ten pulls knock free

I ran into the same issues with a built 2.0, no balance shafts, stock ECU. LOTS of phantom knock between 2500-4000 RPM. We'd do back to back dyno pulls that were 50whp apart due to pulled timing. If you want to figure out if its an issue related to the balance shafts and/or built internals, start your pull at higher RPM. You should be able to get a clean pull above 4000 RPM.

In my case I got tired of dealing with it and finally bit the bullet and went with an AEM. Car now runs perfect and picked up 20whp over its previous best pull. Not sure how much more has been unlocked in the factory ECU by now, though. This was 1.5 years ago for me.
