US model only to have 250 horses?

That's what the new Motor Trend says. Too bad, but it'll still be an *** kicker!

They claim 0-60 in 4.3!

We were promised OVER 250 on the US Evo.

And that 0-60 time is for the Euro spec Evo...I think.

uhm no way in hell does the evo do 0-60 in 4.3. a 911 turbo does it in 4.2. ud be lucky to get high 4s to 60 and low 13s in the 1/4 with the evo.

From my past observation, MT tends to quote/claim highly optimistic 0-60 figures. IIRC, MT once tested a 993 Turbo, claimed it blitzed the 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Hey who knows, maybe MT testers really have good launch techniques.

My take on it: who cares???!!!

Once you take the Evo behind the wheels, toss it around in twisty roads or better yet a race track, none of the number matters.

Evos and STis aren't built to drag race. Those who're buying either car hoping to win or be competitive in a drag racing event are better off getting a Civic and modify it crazily.

I'm not saying that potential buyers of Evo need to be skilled or track regular; what I mean is what separates the Evo from the other cars, including the STi, is its ability to sustain high cornering speeds with great composure.

I just think it'd be a waste if an Evo owner doesn't exploit that

January is Winter but MT could be wrong. Another thing, at my college, Jan. through Aug. is called the "Spring Semester".

No the 250 is NOT wheel hp. Cars are rated by flywheel hp from the factory. If it was 250whp it would come out to 300-325 flywheel hp. Typical drivetrain loss for a rwd car is around 15%. For an awd car it is even more.....something like 20-25%.

have you read the article? I believe they mention the 250 as being to the wheel hp.

The euro spec Evo VII has 276HP and it does 0-60 in 4.3. GT2 does it in 3.7 seconds. These are actual numbers. I think will get like 270HP and all the options like HIDs, Recaros, Brembos, ect. stock

From the MT article on the site:

"This isn't a watered-down boy-racer; it's a rally car that's been streetified. We suspect Mitsu might soften the ride a bit for our market, and we're told the U.S. version (to be called the Evolution VIII) will have something closer to 250 hp--all for just under $30,000. It, and the aforementioned WRX, represents a truly exciting breed of performance car. Bring it on."

Man clicking that link and looking was hard!!! I don't see them mentioning 250 being at the wheels there, and broeli is exactly correct that the manufucturers almost always rate hp at the flywheel(Mitsu being one of them). Moreover, he is further correct in the typical drivetrain loss of hp. AWD cars suffer more losses to the wheels on hp. If the Evo was pushing 250hp stock at the wheels, it would easily be 310 at the flywheel, in which case we know the info is wrong(far too high). So by both the article not stating wheel hp(which means we should automatically assume flywheel), and by some simple math and common sense we can deduce that the quoted figure of 250hp is at the flywheel.

I personally doubt it will be 250hp, probably closer to 280. However, I really don't care if it is only 250, as they will probably either just lower the boost or restrict the exhaust to achieve this. In which case it is irrelevant, as I am ripping that OEM piece of junk out ASAP and hooking up a boost controller(among other things).

actual numbers? the gt2 does not do 0-60 in 3.7...hell the 959 could barely pull numbers like that off. a 3klb car will need a lot mroe than 276 hp to do low 4s 0-60 times. christ a 360 modena does 0-62 in low 4s and it has 130 hp more than the evo and they weigh the same.

I agree, those Evo numbers might be a little quick. With AWD though you launch right off the line, which is important with 0-60.
