lost my key;but my 'spare' works?

hey,

I lost my mistu key,and the dealership i bought it from only gave me one. But a while back, I got a spare made[for like $3] .Its just a copy,no 'chip' like the original has. I remember when I got it made, i tested it in the ignition, and the car ran for 5 seconds and died.

well, tonight,i put the spare key in and it started....and ran....and ran! so i took it around the block to test, and it still ran.

I thought that without the 'special key' *insert dramatic backround music*, it wouldnt run,and this is from first hand experience. But with this $3 key, it runs. Any idea? im still scared to drive around with it.

WOuld it be because the persons that tuned my car used an australian map when they tuned my car? am i safe to use this key? i dont wanna drive and be stuck in the middle of the road

thanks

pj

chances are the map that was used to tune your car has the immobilizer code disabled

which is why it will start no problem...the chip is for the immobilizer

Or you lost your first key in your car somewhere and it's transmitting and satisfying your imobilizer

if the immobilizer was working it would start then die immediately. like chaotic said, it is most likely disabled in the tune.

isn't 96530006 an aus rom? it is becoming the popular universal 8 rom type.

It would have to be "lost" within a few inches of the ignition. Nice try though.

The immobilizer is disabled, the chip inside the key isnt like some of the newer keys where as long as its around the car u can start it/unlock the car. it physically has to be in the ignition or so close its practically humping it
