could someone shed some light on a question?

first off, i'd like to say im sorry if this is in the wrong forum. this place is quite large, and i figured this could be a "general" question. ok, so here's the scoop. pulling onto the highway tonight at decent throttle, something happened in the car. As i rowed threw the gears 1st, 2nd and in the late 3rd (4500/5k rpm) the car hesitated (like it choked or something) and a loud (i mean loud) POP happened. the car is a 04 8, with a 3" dp, no cat, and 3" exhaust. what could have caused this? no lights came on, and still held boost through out the rest of the drive. kind of freaked me out
thanks in advance,
rich

Check your clamps on the pipes.

Could've been a backfire... especially with no cat.

Whatever caused your "hesitation / choke" could have caused your ignition system to not fire for a few revs, which at decent throttle would have been a lot of fuel, and then when it started back up again you got a big bang.

Do you have a boost gauge? And is the boost holding through the rev range?

probably just a friendly backfire

if you blew a licp off you'd know it

if it was anything more serious a cel would have popped up or the car would have quit on you

check your plugs...maybe you are running really rich

you didn't mention being tuned...get a tune if you aren't tuned already

no boost gauge, and for the last of the 3rd gear pull, didnt feel like it was boosting. but for the rest of the ride home, felt pretty solid. didnt happen again the rest of the night. if it was a backfire, it was the loudest one i have ever heard. it made me jump in the seat.

i know for a fact i'm running rich, but wouldnt the backfires happen more frequently? the car is not tuned, still trying to find a decent place around here with good feedback.

if it were his IC pipes the car wouldn't be driving fine for the rest of the night. He'd be in limp mode.

No tune, and Rich, there is your answer.

It wouldnt happen often or it would, its all based on your driving. If today you hit it a little harder than usual, then there is your problem, and you simply backfired.

Backfire is supposed to be loud anyways
Your basically throwing out big fireballs through your muffler due to the unburnt fuel piling up and then getting ignited.
BANG!

+1 on the backfire.

Did the car jerk at the same time? The only reason I ask is to rule out fuel cut. I know that you weren't hard into the throttle, but it's been known to happen. Would check the hose to the wastegate just in case.

the car jerked big time, more like bucked, then a loud pop. it was like the car had a hiccup

then you could have very well hit fuel cut due to the nice cold dense air
