Battery Tray for Miata Battery?
Hey guys,
I want to get a smaller battery so when I get around to doing a bad *** intake manifold I can fit the short route pipe. I've been researching this for a little while and it seems like the Miata battery is the way to go for someone like myself.
The only place I could find that sells a kit that has a tray that works with the Miata battery is Boost Logic, but their kit is a bit too pricey imo. They want $265 for the full kit with Battery, but I can get a new OEM Miata battery for like $120.
I was wondering what trays people are using with their Miata batteries?

seems easy to make a tray for it once i received it, but i did need to trim it in certain areas because it didnt fit with the engine mount. i say to get the im first and have custom pipe made because with many intake manifolds it puts the inlet farther out causing the need of custom pipe for correct fitment

I have had a few people PM me and ask for pictures and more info on the battery tray I made a while back. I was just recently putting the trans back in the car and took the time to snap some pics. The Miata battery has been great to me over the last 2 years, and I would recommend it to anyone.
This tray was made utilizing the stock tray, a piece of 3/16" aluminum plate that I had laying in the garage, and some 3/4"x3/4"x1/6" aluminum angle. It also uses the stock hold down bolts bent into a "J" shape.
I made an album in my profile page with more pictures if anyone is interested and would like to see more.

Well I test fitted a honda battery group 51 not 51r and it fit great my only concern is that I had to cut both side supports on the battery tray to make it fit and I fear that it will slide forward to back upon acceleration and decel.
I guess I will have to go miata. What is the lowest cca our cars need?

does anyone actually make this kit? i'm really wanting to do my 51r battery rather than the huge mitsu battery. the 51r saves about 10 lbs over stock, but it has power for all the other crap, like alarm, radio and stuff. dont like the mini battery idea for daily car.

You know I had an idea. Not sure weather it is brilliant or bad. Maybe someone could try out Reese Tuning's BR battery tray knock off. It is very ill fitting of the mini battery and is larger so it might fit somewhat ok for miata?
