New Evo 8 Owner Impressions

Picked it up Tuesday night, drove off of the lot at 7pm with 12 miles. Now it has almost 500. I have a few observations.

1. Vibration - I'm surprised, almost shocked at how much the cabin vibrates sitting at idle.
2. Brakes - I have to press harder than my Celica GT-S to get the same stopping effect, but not bad at all!
3. Gas Mileage - 21.3 for my first 200 miles, all city. 22.25 for 262 miles ALMOST all highway. Kinda curious about those numbers, but ...
4. Ride - stiffer than I recall from my test drive months ago, but, I'm not really complainin'... *laugh*
5. Personal storage - you know, that spot under the wheel - WTF can you keep in that tiny spot???
6. Speedo - could they make the damn thing any smaller and insignificant? *laugh* Tough with no cruise... really have to look hard, taking attention from the road... *shrugs* Have to depend more on my Escort, I guess! *laugh*
7. Seats - PERFECT!
8. Shifter - notchier than I expected, or perhaps remember from that test drive. But I'm getting used to it...
9. Ride Height - surprised it's so tall... but the damn thing sticks like glue and rolls DAMN little when pressed through a corner, so who cares? It's nice to see so much better in traffic! *laugh*

I think that's it for now... just thought I'd share...

Peace!

I was really surprised the car is as tall as it is too, for a car that handles like a go kart. I woulda imagine they'd have to be lower to the ground, but I guess AWD makes up for a lot of that.

I barely look at the speedo too, since it's just tossed to the side, with the tach so big in the center.

I thought the same about the brakes too, but when you really get on it, those Brembo's work extremely well.

Thanks Theo... do you notice all that vibration?? It's like an old car with a performance cam or something... *chuckle*

The car seems tall because it is one of the only "performance" cars on the market that actually has some ground clearance. I'm not saying we can go rock crawling with it, but at least we have no troubles with high angle drive ways, or speed bumps in parking lots

Good points.

I had some vibration at idle that has pretty much gone away. Perhaps the motor mounts wear in a little?

I was surprised that the brakes weren't more "grabby", but I was coming from an Audi and an older Porsche 911 (1987 Carrerra Cabriolet). I think the Germans definitely have more initial "bite", but the EVO will outbrake them handilly. It's more feedback based..

My mileage has stabilitzed at right around 20 mpg or a little less.

I have my boost gauge in that compartment to the left of the steering wheel. I can see it through the spokes when I'm going straight, and I can close it and keep it hidden when I'm not monitoring...

Changing to synthetic driveline fluids improved shifter feel in my car. I used Redline MT-90 in the transaxle and NEO RHD in the transfer case and rear diff.

Oh, and it's nice not to have to worry about scraping on every driveway or parking lot I enter.

Enjoy!

The ride height is perfect for people who will be driving in the snow. Really do not want a snow plow

I bought my car for all the things you complained about. Its a freaking rally car for the dam city. I love the rattles and squeaks of my car. I love the fact it sucks gas. Brakes best out there, get a stronger leg.

Dude, he/we are not complaining. We're merely pointing out comparisons of what we're used to. For your information, I can leg press 610lbs multiple times.

Oh, trust me! Those aren't complaints! Just observations based on the vehicle I came from and a few years of driving other vehicles as well.

And no, that wasn't 500 miles in one night! Picked it up Tuesday night, had about 500 by Friday night.

I keep figuring out excuses to go drive the damn thing... *laugh*

Peace!
